It’s been awhile since I’ve posted a video. The last two times up my GoPro malfunctioned. Please enjoy a simple video of formation flying and some IFR training around the sound. IFR practical test scheduled for the end of September!

Mount Rainier & Mount Saint Helens flyby

Grayson took me flying today and we toured Mount Rainier and Mount Saint Helens. We flew at 10,500 feet and got spectacular views. The air was completely smooth. The landing at Grove, 1W1 was a little sketchy. We came in too fast and porpoised a bit. Got it under control and removed the under ware from my back side. Headed to Chehalis for lunch at the golf course. Decent food. Rounded out the t...

Today we flew from Auburn over to Tacoma Narrows to drop off another club pilot to pick up our 182. At Tacoma, we filed IFR and shot two RNAV 17 approaches, one to a published hold, another with vectors back to Auburn on the RNAV A approach. Topped it off with unusual attitude recovery with partial panel and a DME arc off the SEA VOR.

    If this is a student pilot then I guess this is ok but if this is someone with their ppl then these are the type of instructors that drive me crazy. Even as a student having an instructor constantly talking and telling you what to do drives me nuts. I have had instructors like this and I would tell them to take notes and when we are on the ground we can go over the flight until then BE QUIET. I’m not flying the plane you are “ uggh

      @@johnmcevoy6635 For all intents and purposes I was a student pilot since I had never flown the Cherokee before. I love my instructor’s teaching style. He has made me a much better pilot. The amount of knowledge he has is second to none and I love hearing as much of it as possible.

    Of all the PA28s that I've flown, the -161 is my favorite. But I love the -180 and -181s as well. That said, the Grumman AA-5B is my all time favorite (fixed gear & prop, under 200hp). Agree with the other comments... excellent instructor!

    Instead of with request when they answer your initial call just say the request. Call up without the request- otherwise how would they know you're trying to open ifr which is a very different request than when they don't want to bother with vfr flight following.

    • @PilotAndrew
      @PilotAndrew Před 2 měsíci

      If we really wanted to we could call them back. The weather wasn’t a factor and we still had valuable IFR training this flight. If the weather was crappy we would have called clearance delivery on the ground before.

    Beautiful views going through the pass at the end! One of your most spectacular videos! ❤ By the way, at 8:00 I've heard it's 70 percent of your takeoff speed by half way. If you are accelerating at a constant rate, your distance travelled is proportional to the square of your speed. So if you are at .707 (square root of 1/2) of your takeoff speed halfway down the runway, you will be at your takeoff velocity at the end of the runway. That actually may not be good enough. I like your 3/4 idea better for this particular field! Even better, find your predicted takeoff roll from the manual and make sure you achieve 70 percent of takeoff speed by the time you reach half of that length. Using half of runway length can be problematic. Say you reach 70 percent of takeoff speed halfway down a 10,000' runway. That probably means you have no climb power when you rotate.
