Lampworking / Flameworking - 102.23 - Trailing with Tungsten - 104 Glass Demo
Hello Everyone! 🤗🌈 I love all the fun tools we get to use when working with the hot glass…from tweezers, mashers, knives and puntys and picks. They are all important to play and practice with! The Tungsten Pick is a favorite one of mine and is a great tool for moving the glass around.
I usually use this tool as a pusher for bubbles or adding holes in the glass. Today I want to practice dragging it through the surface, creating a fun linear design! It should be very interesting! 😅🙏🏽
I hope you all enjoy this one! 💫🌹 Cheers to you all- Robin👋🏽✨✨

Hello Friends! 😍🌹 I hope you are all doing well! Today I have a fun Double Feature for you….2 different types of flower buds! Hello my Friends! 💫🌹 This is a fun little technique to learn…pulling dots into different shapes. I call this particular pattern the Royal Cross. I just think it looks so regal and fancy! 😂🌟 Keep in mind that when I’m pulling on the glass my flame can look bigger because I’m using a larger torch…It’s the Hellcat from Carlisle Machine Works. Good Morning Robin, I know you use a Hellcat, are you running it off of tank oxygen or do you use an oxy con? If so which one or ones do you use. I know you are always saying you have shaky hands, even yet I'm still pretty impressed with your dot and stringer placement dealing with your hands. As always thanks for all your videos

    Lovely bead as always Robin. Its so nice to see someone using my fave colour - green! I cant believe you have the same anxieties the rest of us have when you consistantly produce such nice work. This technique was used a lot by Sarah Hornik and your beads are every bit as good as hers, so you have nothing to worry about. A decent glass artist ( I am talking about you Robin😉) has good instincts as to how the bead will turn out - even if its not visible in the flame. The "gouges" as you call them ( a bit harsh lol!), are perfectly normal. Flame polishing soon gets rid of the valleys though. Personally, I am a bit of a freak and like my beads really smooth, any sign of chill marks or anything I have done to make the design below the surface and i just have to polish it out. I rarely use tools other than marvers or Pushy, Pokey, Proddy Tools for that reason. I have a shelf of presses, hardly used and gathering lots of dust. Once a blue moon i use a crunch, but thats about it. Robin, I have a challenge for you should you wish to take it?.... Make a similar bead to the point before raking. Then, instead of raking, use heat control and gravity to get the same look.... Just a comment to other beadmakers reading this: Everyone struggles with stringer control - until it falls into place. A bead like this gives you the opportunity to play with stringer, as it doesnt matter if its not perfect. I'm not brilliant with stringer control, though i manage - but that doesnt really matter to me as my beads are quite organic generally. I learned stringer control using a base bead and stringer of the same colour. When i made a mess i just melted the stringer flat and started again - then turned the bead into something pretty at the end!

      Hello Beady! 🌹✨✨ Thanks so much for your message and comments! 🤗 I am big on flame polishing as well…love that smooth surface! And it came in very handy for these beads. I have about 15 bead presses and only use 2 of them….the rest are collecting dust 😂. I like your challenge and will try to give it a go this weekend! And I’m so glad you mentioned stringer control…practicing with the same color as the base bead is a brilliant idea. ✨🌹🌹 🌟Thanks again so much for sharing with us all, Beadysam! Cheers to you- Robin 🌈🙏🏽✨✨✨

    You are the man. Just bought this exact combo and needed to find someone else with the same idea. Thank you so much for the fix! With the HF sale recently I just couldn't buy the Dewalt saw after seeing head to head reviews vs the Hercules. For what I am doing at least, the value was just too good to pass up. Glad I am not the only one. Great concise video with some very useful info I didn't see in the instructions. @@scottwoodresearch I’m so extremely happy to that you got your pick out and practiced with it as your amazing with it as shown in your design of you bead. You should use your pick more often. Also congrats on the donation you got from the lovely person below this comment. Can I ask how you set it up on your page for people to donate to you? It also does not surprise me your looking for air con everywhere lol the heat is crazy all over the USA from what I’ve heard people say that in some places it is hitting the 120’s. Sadly in my health department I do not have much help, my friend will pop to the shop for me if she is going herself or coming past it but otherwise I do everything myself. I have my wheelchair but my ram is very heavy to get out and put up. Also I hate using my wheelchair through pride because of my age (I’m 38). I hope Patrick is enjoying getting his tan while doing the hard work of working on the house, garden and backyard studio. I’m hoping to record very soon when I can work out how to use one of the free recording programs that will stream to YT, Kick, FB & insta some of the recordings will be live streaming some will be pre-recorded videos and some will be shorts but it’s all jut going to take time. I’m going to order some faux white granite mats to film on top of with my beading mat on top of them but all this is just for my jewellery making for now asm I still do not have my LW equipment back yet as I have not raised the funds, I did put up a go fund me but so far it is not going novwhere. At the moment I’m waiting till my business is up and I need a business owner whom knows me to vouch for me for my ID for my legal documents or another professional so just sorting that out for now and i’m just waiting for someone to get back to me as long as my ex gave me the right email address about the looking at the documents and filling out an email for my ID. Stay hydrated hun and can you please tell Patrick said hi please but also I said for him to do the same and for him to also stay hydrated as well in this heat especially working outside. The pipemakers are the cutting edge of glass art and are even being featured now in such prestigious environs as The Corning Museum. What amazing expensively and beautiful rose buds/flowers you have made out of glass Robin. The way your mind works is truly amazing and how you get your ideas from your mind to the mandrel is brilliant to watch. I do not know how many will understand this but to make these piece in basically what is two different types gold glasses is bold but I also think an outstanding risk for gorgeous rewards for these two fabulous pieces of flowered glass artwork. You have honest god brilliant talent on the torch Robin and are an amazing artist. Enough of the flattery now lol. How are you darling and how’s Patrick? Say hi to Patrick for me please. I hope you have been well and your pain levels have been manageable, the same with Patrick. How’s the heat where you are? The heat for the UK has been to much for me I’ve been overheating, also I’ve been in excruciating pain for the last week or so and it’s getting worse and harder to move. My IG is kels_lampworked_glass_and_more From there I’ll send you the link to my FB Page it’s easier to stay in contact that way. Stay safe and look after yourself my friend ❤️ 🌹

    Hi Robin -- long time no talk. I'm hoping you can give me some guidance regarding mandrel racks for the Chili Pepper. Can you tell me how it sits? I understand the base ad the front and back with the holes. What I'm not sure about is do you actually put the whole rack into the kiln with the door closed with just the ends of the mandrels sticking out? Is the door slightly open? How do you place mandrels that you have center dipped? So many questions! Hope you are well and that your Summer is going well. Seems to have flown by! I haven't been in my studio for a few weeks. I'm looking forward to getting back to it! Cheers.

      @scottwoodresearch Před 15 dny

      Hello Derweasel! 🤗🌹 Great to hear from you! So…I do not have a bead rack in my Chilipepper. I just have some short kiln shelf pieces lining the back of my annealer so I can rest the mandrel on it so my glass doesn’t touch the bottom. My mandrels do stick out under the door about 3 inches or so.✨✨ I tried to look up the bead rack but couldn’t find it…I am assuming that it goes in the oven and that your mandrels will also stick out of the door. It’s ok if the door is slightly open too. The rack sounds interesting! If you can please send a link! 🤗✨ Have fun in your studio!! Thanks so much and hope you are doing well!! Cheers- Robin 👋🏽🌈💫💫💫

      @@scottwoodresearchThis turned out to be a great technique for handling a larger volume of soft glass. The metal punty makes all the difference. I used electrical tape instead of an elastic - it’s much more heat resistant. I think in my first one I used too much glass though. I’ll try another next weekend!

    • @scottwoodresearch
      @scottwoodresearch Před 21 dnem

      Hello Mirela! ✨🌹 I’m so glad to hear that you have been enjoying the demos and that they have been helpful! 🤗 My favorite bead release is Foster Fire Smooth and Tuff bead release…you can get it from Frantz Art Glass online. It is by far the best I have found! But it can still crack if your mixture is too thin. 💫 About not melting the mandrel…. It depends on what it is made of. The only reason a mandrel would melt is from being too hot. A smaller flame and less heat on the wire can help. I hope this helps!! 🌹✨🌹Thanks so much for reaching out! ✨✨✨Cheers- Robin 👋🏽🌈🤗
