Grimie's Historic MkI Escort
This incredible MkI Escort has race history dating back to the mid-1970s, and was owned by the same person, Rod Grimwood, for nearly 40 years! In addition, Robert van Gisbergen, father of current NASCAR driver and former V8 Supercar driver Shane van Gisbergen was also an owner. This car is an amazing time-warp, having sat in storage for 30 years, but is now back on the track, cutting laps.

This mega-machine is a genuine Zakspeed Ford Escort, as raced in the German DRM. It began life as a Zakspeed Group 2 car in 1975 before being rebuilt to Group 5 regs for 1977. It is a rare beast! And really special. And crazy! The DRM produced some epic machinery, and this is a real-deal survivor. Le Mans Movie - Musical Scene

Steve McQueen's Le Mans movie was one that placed racing accuracy above dialogue, and reviews from non-racing viewers were mixed. But the racing scenes themselves were ground-breaking. Once you watch this scene, the music stays in your head fo...

@@theroaringseason1394 Yeah, so its Dulon lacquer , I thought it had that look to it, I've used lots of it over the years , glad to see it's still available. I dont know which cutting paste you use , but I'd like to recommend 3M "Perfect it " number 1 , (in a purple bottle) it's amazing stuff , it produces a mirror shine , fast , and with the least amount of effort possible, it puts most other compounds to shame. 👍

Those sure were the days...! As an avid 15year old car nut, I used to watch as many races on telly as were broadcast. Outside of channel 7 showing Bathurst, ABC would televise these races. Wheels,Modern Motor, Racing Car News and Cheque Flag were assiduously read each month. With so much sport, including car racing behind paywalls, it has become expensive viewing. Thanks for the upload, great memories and times 👍😁

Great to see the first lap. I watched the full race at home in 78 and loved it. If you thought Colin Bond was upset by not being allowed to win the 77 race then spare a thought for GMH who suffered the humiliation of the 77 defeat. But as Holden said at the time - that will never happen again and they built a car that simply destroyed the Ford Falcons with Moffat and Bond DNF. 1979 would be even more humiliating for Ford. Again Moffat and Bond were DNF with the first 8 places going to the mighty A9X Torana with Peter Brock again the winner and only one Falcon Hardtop finishing the race. The devastation was so great that Ford pulled out of racing leaving Holden to ponder whether it was worth continuing as there was nothing able to beat the Toranas and Moffat without a factory team.. Great days of Australian Motor Racing ... long gone and it has never been repeated.

Great work Steve! 🥝✔️Under Edsel B Ford's belt was the Cobra Mustang II, another cynical paint and sports pack upgrade. In an Australian setting, where the RP0 97 pack didn't go far enough was in weight reduction and engine endurance. The Holden GM GPOs effectively used an L34 Formula 5000 Repco castings, homologated through Formula 5000. Ford Australia, knowing the Cleveland had a suspect block, suspect nodular crankshaft and a known oiling and a standard adjustable non roller rocker problem in the 6200 to 7200 rpm zone, failed to use the durability items that were available from Ford's international supply. The 1969 366 Triple Carb Cleveland project allowed Ford Australia to pick up just 30 homologated durability components. Instead, a 400 pound heavier car, with No alloy heads, no Steel crank, no alloy block, no Boss 302 roller rockers, no drag reducing fiberglass Monza or Concorde show car van front. The 78 Falcon Hardtop failed under the pressure put on it by the A9X. Holden read the emerging combined sprint and endurance race conditions, and Ford Australia's best looking factory racer was short changed just like the XD, XE Falcon and Z28 Camaro were in 1980 to 1984.

Just one thing: the three works RS3100 Group 2 Race Cars, such as the one in this video, while based on the production model RS3100 built in Cologne, Germany, were in fact built from the ground up by AVO, Ford's Advanced Vehicle Operations facility in Essex, UK. They weren't even constructed from panels pressed in Cologne, AVO built everything in-house. They were sent to Ford's Competition Department in Cologne only for Homologation purposes as that's where the production models were built, and Driver Support during European competitions. I'm not sure why these extremely rare British race cars are so often misrepresented as being German-built.
