Studying and Abstracting Form
zhlédnutí 1,2KPřed rokem
Form is sometimes confused with shape. When we studied shape, we recognized that it’s defined by being two dimensional. Form is three-dimensional, which means it has substance and volume. So a form can be a shape, but a shape is not a form. Form is not defined by the materials that are used. Any material that can be used to create a three-dimensional object is fair game. I once saw a huge “form...

    Inspiring video! I really like the juxtaposition of organic vs geometric structure. The discipline of the scientific experimentation is admirable. And I am always interested to see what other artists are doing with their electronic cutting machines! I have been working with a Brother ScanNCut and the potential is so exciting! I've been experimenting with printing and cutting on an interfacing product, then fusing onto substrate.

  • @angieweisswange5873
    @angieweisswange5873 Před měsícem

    Best surface to attach your cloth to is a sticky (tacky) board. Coat a thin sheet (3mm) hardboard (masonite) with stencil glue (stays tacky) and allow glue to 'dry'. Spread fabric smoothly onto the tacky surface. It is repositionable. The board now holds fabric flat and smooth for painting or dyeing. No need for pins or tape. You can use it for starch resist, too. Please note: Just make sure if you are painting with acrylic fabric paint that you lift the fabric while still damp or it will bond with the tacky surface (like a contact adhesive) and wreck your cloth or board. This is very important to remember. Flour and water paste and dye dont do this so are perfect mediums to use on sticky boards. Your sticky board can be washed and any residues of paste, paints, dyes and fibres will easily wash off the surface. Once dry, the board will return to its stickiness. Cover with a plastic sheet to protect it until you need to use it again.

    Thank you as I learned so much. I sadly think of archetypes related to Meghan Markle. I would be interested to know your opinion of Meghan Markle. As she says all the right things and says she is a feminist. It's good to talk buy if the behaviour and actions don't match the talk we become curious. I'm getting over the psychological injury I endured from my mother who was a psychopath. I was powerless in my family and art was my salvation. And I'm happy I'm finding success and confidence with my art.

    Thank you for this video. This is what worked for me. Before buying the buying the professional paper, I used some double-sided photo paper that I had on hand (I know some people said it wouldn't work). I have an epson 8500. Using photoshop, I set the settings to black / grayscale and my printer to plain paper. I printed a detailed alphabet print like the video. I let it sit on the gelli plate for about 15 minutes after smoothing down vigorously with a roller. It left a perfect image! I used light yellow acrylic paint as my background. Thn, I let it sit till dry, and it peeled up beautifully with no loss of image. I can't believe how well this worked. So double-sided photo paper can work (at least with Epson 8500) as long as you use the right settings! And it didn't even leave a ghost image that needed to be cleaned off. Thanks for all the advice in the comments!

    Thank you for clearly explaining your process. I’m a 74 year old starting to go down the tie dye road and almost 100% of tie dyers recommend doing the soda ash pre soak. Many have noted the undissolved powder specks as an issue and therefore some will tie dye with their shirts turned inside out. As I am beginning this journey your explanation of adding the soda ash to your mixture + dye powder makes perfect sense! I want to paint some images to my tie dyed shirts once that process is done so I would just be making very small amounts to do this to not have waste. How much of your paint mix do you have in your cups? I will reduce your recipe to possibly 1/8 c + your soda ash mix then add my dye powder.

    I tried your techniques and got the results that you showed us, but on one of my pieces of cotton I placed puzzle pieces, picture side down. The next morning when I went to check on the results I found the exact opposite patterning. all the ink accumulated under the puzzle pieces... so I have a piece of cotton that is light grey with black puzzle piece designs. I am mystified as to why. I have tried using very absorbent materials like coasters, book board etc and I get a bit of this accumulating ink but not as distinct a difference as when I used the puzzle pieces. Any ideas?
