Hello I just inherited my dad's 2006 GMC canyon and oh my goodness I know nothing about it but Iam learning I'm single so I do everything myself sometimes can b good sometimes not so good I wanna go crazy lol . But im having a problem with headlights fog lights have u ever heard of wires being bunny ear cut the things at grease monkey said that's what happened n they couldn't fix it id have to take it to GMC it's self and I'm pretty sure there going to charge me out the u know what especially me being a female sorry don't mean any disrespect but anyways sorry for the book but could u help pleaseeee

That button isn't for cutting them on and off. It is to set whether they can be cut on. The wheel to the right that controls the brightness of the dash lights actually cuts on the dome light. Roll it all the way up to the brightest dash setting and when you feel like it has hit the stop, turn it further and it will click into the on position for the dome light. That button you are using sets whether or not the dome light can be turned on from the that little wheel of the dash lights. That means you have your dash light wheel actually turned all the way up and into the on position for the dome light. So now that you have it there and are operating the light from the button, you're just cutting the lights ability to come on and off. That is why your dome light isn't coming on when you open your doors. You need to cut the button to the on ability and then roll that wheel out of the dome light on position so the light can go off naturally. Then your dome light will start working when you open the doors.
