      People like to ignore and put away us veterans. It's how they justify themselves and "they're" freedoms and personal lives. I was 19 in a war zone for the first time. No one cares about that except other veterans. Not even my own family, community & neither did my ex wife friends etc. They don't care what you were ordered to do by your government. To them, it's you're problem and too bad. It's the reason why there's so many divorces and suicide among veterans. But I'm not going to kill myself for the sake of the worthless humans that I went and did my service for. My life may not be worth anything to them but it's worth something to me, and that's all that matters. Try reading about the things that we went through, you need to do that, and almost everybody needs to do that, because until they start having a heart and caring for others, they will never be able to understand us veterans. Choke down the pain and suffering you're going to read and experience, through the heart and life of those who bled for you, and witnessed horrific things. We did it for you. For everyone. It's hell living life alone where the entire world turns it's backs .

    This is really funny! In Permanent Record Snowden mentions 9/11 twenty-five times. Skyscrapers have this problem of having to hold themselves up. The lower portions must be stronger than the upper portions. That means more steel. The designers had to know how much concrete was where to properly distribute the steel. Where is the Permanent Record of the tons of steel and tons of concrete on each level of the North Tower? It is not in the NCSTAR1 report. 9/11 is echoing down the century. The physics will not go away. Engineering schools should have had physical and virtual collapse models of the North Tower by January of 2005. We can simulate the climate 80 years into the future but not the collapse of a 1360 ft skyscraper? Ridiculous!

      @@BooksbyCarolineMiller Snowden said he was motivated to protect America because of 9/11 and mentioned 9/11 25 times in his book. I have the electronic version and did the search. Protect America? The people doing the surveillance are a problem but if they cannot solve simple physics problems then surveillance isn't the only one. In 1940 it only took 4 months to model the Tacoma Narrows bridge. We can't model the North Tower in 20 years.

      @@BooksbyCarolineMiller What I call the Twin Towers Affair is a peculiar anomaly. Middle school kids should have no trouble understanding that skyscrapers must be stronger toward the bottom. Try finding the distribution of steel in any skyscraper in the world.

    My reading of this book was perfectly timed for my life, as I'm currently battling stage IV cancer. The main lesson, living to the fullest in each moment, is something I know I should still strive to accomplish. Many days, it's hard to find the energy. Thank you Mitch Albom for writing a beautiful book that quickly and completely makes a compelling case. This book is a great reminder of what really matters in this ever-more-hectic, uncontrollable world. I've gone from being a "Sarah" to being a "Victor" in a span of 30 years and will always appreciate the whirlwind it was. It's fantastic that I have been reminded that the great moments are still here.Check out here - amzn.to/2tvWp2v

    Thank you for your honest review. I was going to pick this book for my book club but now I guess I will be running out the door. It would have been nice had the author attempted to paint some humanity into the lives of North Korean citizens. Like the characters in the book, NK people had become a tool for some guy to win a sensationalized depiction of oppressive regime.

      BooksbyCarolineMiller That's a positive comment, thanks! :) I understand your criticisms, i'm not saying the book is flawless, but it was my cup of tea from page 1. We have different opinions. I checked out some of your other reviews - a great idea for a show and I like the intelligent round table discussion but people need to ease up on the spoilers, especially Caroline in this video. I'm glad I read the book first before watching your review because you and the other guy kept spoiling key moments from the book. There's no need to get so heated if you loathe a book; be mindful of viewers who might just wanna read it anyway. I think your 'skip this book' system is also unfair and unnecessary. Unless you really dislike a book and find absolutely no redeeming qualities whatsoever how is it justified to deter others from reading it? What's wrong with giving an opinion and maybe a score at the end?

    • @BooksbyCarolineMiller
      @BooksbyCarolineMiller Před 9 lety

      Thanks for your critique paperbagman555. The book won the some prestigious awards so you are on the side of the angels. I simply do not agree with the community judgment. "Just Read It" reviews books that are current and out for a while. Can't discuss the literary merit of a book without spoilers. We're not in the business of book promotion but I acknowledge your point. And yes, I really disliked the book and thought it had no redeeming qualities either in style, plot or message. As for the "skip this book," it's the segment most people comment upon favorably it so on that point you are in the minority. Still, diversity of opinion the name of the game. Keeping watching. We may find a book we can agree upon. Next video out June 2nd. i.

      @Paperbagman555 Před 9 lety

      I see, well maybe you should at least put 'spoilers' in the title of your videos or put 'discussion' before 'review'. Just because something as been out for a while doesn't mean everyone's read it. I think you can definitely discuss merit without spoiling anything at all. Movie and music critics succeed at this all the time. Same with book reviewers on youtube. I'll watch your upcoming review but I hope you can ease up on the reveals a bit - all the best.

      Wondering about what? It's called Black Humour - the best kind (imo) because it's honest. Catch-22? Amazing book that also has a grim edge to it. I think the writing in this novel is erudite and has brilliant satire. There are uplifting moments in the novel too, it's not always depressing.
