While Alzheimer’s biomarker blood tests can’t actually determine whether or not a person has Alzheimer’s disease, they can signal the presence of biomarkers, which in conjunction with talking to a doctor, could encourage lifestyle changes or lead to earlier diagnosis. However, these tests can be hard to interpret and people still have questions about how these tests can evolve in the future. Fe...

I am 53 and overall in great health. I've been a runner for 20+ years and I eat healthy. I use my mind for 90% of my work writing software and would say for my age I was sharp. I recently caught a virus that seem to affect my nervous system with severe muscle pain in the back and legs. As I was recovering over 3 weeks, it became obvious that my mind has also been seriously affected. I can't remember how to do basic tasks that I've done for years. Even a recipe for my favorite food is just not available. It's like my working memory was taken out 90%. Long term memory seems okay. Anyway, I am here considering what the possibilities are and if it was a sickness or early onset of something else... Has anyone experienced this or know of someone like this?

Food is poison in the 21st century. We have to navigate it like a minefield. Jason Fung is the man who discovered fasting to cure diabetes and cancer. Not Valter Longo. He's just a researcher. He discovered nothing. The real genius and expert is Doctor Jason Fung. A lot of imposters are trying to take the credit away from him. You racists!

I just learned - yesterday - that my 85 year-old mother’s dementia is Lewy Body Dementia, Moderate. She’s had the classic symptoms for at least 3 years. My daughter (a pediatrician) and I discussed various dementias when the hallucinations about bugs infesting her home became so severe and persistent that my dad no longer could hide them from the rest of the family. Whether she wasn’t diagnosed until recently or my father deliberately hadn’t told us doesn’t matter as much as how quickly we can learn about this disease so that we can really help. I am specifically grateful to you for all the advice about how to respond to the hallucinations. Deep breath.

So, my mom's hallucinations consisted of her bed being on fire and her phone screaming.... How do you respond to that? I would go to her room and get on her bed to show her it wasn't on fire and she'd get even more hysterical. I took the batteries out of her phone and she could still hear it screaming... How do you respond to that?

Thank you for this very informative and inspirational video chat with someone who is now one of my "shero's along with Doreen Monks. I just read the book and wanted to know more about this exceptional person and found Being Patient's interview. So, thank you! I, too, have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s last summer after years of prior testing and exploration. As a retired clinical psychologist who specialized in adults and elders having mental health and cognitive problems, I was very aware of dementia and its symptoms, causes, treatments, etc. So I went through a number of neuropsychological tests over many years when first noticing some language difficulties in my late 40's. Although familiar with research and how to find good information in mental health and brain disease, finding local support and a good neurologist has been a challenge. I am inspired by these women and their stories and, especially, their efforts to live as well as they can and to share their knowledge and experiences with others while still able to do so . . . while still being "me.".
