I had my 2007 XC70, which I've owned for over 2yrs, MOTd today. When I picked it up and drove off the car locked itself. It's never done that before. Neither have the other 2007 XC70 or the two 2002 S60s I had before it. So came on here looking for how to turn it off! Your video was very helpful, thank you!

For small pieces like that use vinegar and steel brush. Cheaper and just as effective.

Wow. Knowing all these volvo issues! I'd suggest changing that rear oil often, like every 10,000 miles. My brother has this problem on his 2011 xc90. Scary 😱 🤮

My 02 V70 XC is leaking some fluid from the rear differential and I started hearing the exact same noise the other day. Do you think the rear diff is toast or it's still savable?

I'm surprized by these diffs failing after such a relatively short time. My 30-year-old MB has never had a problem, I also have friends with MBs from the 60s and 70s, never had a diff problem.

Would it not have been easier to take the tips off and polish them on a workbench?

How long did you drive the vehicle with the diff noise before finally replacing it? Mine is starting to make the same noise and I'm wondering how much time I have. Would rather not do the job in the middle of winter in Iowa.

What did it cost you to have this differential overhauled? Just the cost of the service that did the actual differential work for you please.

Hey, is this the 2.4 engine as I have a Volvo xc90 2.4 2008… what brand would you recommend? SKF or INA? Thinking of doing water pump + timing belt + V ribbed aux belt and pulleys (incl. Alternator freewheel)
