If Tywin hadn't died, Tommen might have made for a good king. God Cersei is such a fuck-up.

however i think that’s his demise; he actually listened to tywin’s advice and when he died, looked towards margaery tyrell as a trusted counselor, became so attached he killed himself from a broken heart

Tommen was good, merciful and friendly but he was weak and gullable that was easy manipulate by his mom Cersei, his Maergery and the High Sparrow for their benefit, he was brave enough and smart enough to speak for himself, make good choices on his own and be twice the better person anyone in his family and could not save his sister at the hands of Ellaria Sand and he could save those inocente people that died in the septon baelor when Cersei blow it up with wild fire because his own mother and grandpa did not teach him to be brave and smart aside from being kind, good, merciful, loving, friendly and respectful, his fate happen because of bad parenting and lack of love

When Tommen nails it with "Wisdom" and Tywin gives his "Yessss" watch Cersi - she's surprised. She didn't guess the answer herself (listening along) and the fact that Tommen did makes her wonder for a moment if she hasn't misread Tommen and there's more to the boy that she doesn't see...but Tywin does. Tywin then leading him away from his mother is just wonderfully powerful.

getting "the talk" from tywin is probably the most scariest moment of his life

In an alternate timeline, Tommen is the ruler of the 7 kingdoms, and dies of old age after a lifetime of peace. Dean-Charles Chapman made honestly did an icredible job with this character, very underrated.

Just like Rome. A good king who rebuilds what the 3 before him destroyed.

This scene is a masterpiece and explains how politics work just by simple examples

Orys the first seems to be fully fictional, just some guy Tywin made up to help sell this lesson to his grandson. Which is funny, cos Tywin is killed in a similar way this supposed king was.

Tywin was a great character, intelligent and perceptive, ruthless when necessary but not cruel,he would have been a brilliant king, pity he wasn’t all those things to his children.

I love how despite Tywins advice seeming like he's leading him to have depndance on him, it's still VERY good advice. "The wisest kings continue to listen to them long afterwards" Even if Tommen becomes splendid at managing every aspect of rulership he will no be as much of an expert as someone who focuses on one topic specifically

Whenever I saw this scene I remind that If Tyrion doesn't kill kill Tywin all the destruction and madness we saw afterwards can be prevented so It would be better for King's Land and it's people because Tywin is one of pillar of the kingdom with the role of king's hand

Tywin was the only reason things were held together at King's Landing and the kingdom under Lannister rule. That's why I think Tyrion killing him was the most important turning point in the series.

This is just my opinion, but I feel like Tywin's "yes!" was not wholesome at all. Yes, he clearly value wisdom, but remember he acknowledged Tyrion's wisdom and treated him like garbage regardless. Charles Dance's delivery makes me think of that one teacher who tries to hype up the students when they answers right to encourage them to listen more. Tywin is manipulating Tommen, which the following lines make obvious. Note that Jaime just asks him if he's ok, says he'll take care of him, and leaves. THAT is genuine. Sublime scene regardless of interpretation.

What I like about Tywin's advice is that not only is Tywin obviously setting Tommen up to be a malleable puppet, but also Tywin's advice is very good. Tywin, at least, plays the game of thrones straight, he isn't setting up massive betrayals behind the scenes or using the entire seven kingdoms chiefly to line his pockets. Listening to his advice is a good way to stay in power and stay alive, so on the one hand, I want to say, "Tommen, no, he's tricking you" but... Tywin is not wrong, either

I agree with this so much. After seeing the mess Cersi made with Joffery, he wanted to make sure he know how to lead the way he wanted Janie to.

Tywin was trying to set up Tommen as essentially his puppet, but incidentally set him up to be a weak puppet of pretty much whatever person gave him advice most recently.

sometimes i pitty tywin more than ned because all that wisdom and cleverness wasted cause of his stupid children. only once when he was unfair to tyrion on joffery's death i felt he was the villan other than that pretty decent and justifiable character. In some sense he was his behaviour towards tyrion was also reasonable so many chaces wasted on him.

Jamie heard the tail end of that conversation and went BOIIIIIIIING !!! A practical demonstration then happened. Too bad Tommen and Tywin missed that.

I feel soooo bad for Tywin really. He wasn’t a bad man at all. If only he saw the potential in Tyrions wit and treated him well lannisters would sure enough be rulers of the seven kingdoms a way or the other. This is by far the most educating , genuine conversation I’ve ever heard between a man and his grandson at least for a TV series
