    I don't think the trancontinental travel for our Western partners is worth UConn's inclusion. 2 East Coast teams are enough until the ACC folds. Yormark needs to keep in his lane and let the Presidents decide.

    Stop trying to use the P2 as a measure for the Big 12. I love the MLS. It's never going to be Premier League and La Liga. All of the WVU hype last week did nothing but convince you to find a new hype team of the week. Big 12 teams load up on a weak Big 12 schedule and try to go to the playoffs. Hard to understand how the Presidents value their own expertise as to brand and market value over the expert (Brett Y) who just resurrected the conference from the ashes. Even though the big 12 basketball from an analytics is at the top, if you ask the average fan on street they don’t see that.. That’s why you need brands like UConn. Plus UConn strength will offset the weakness of UCF, Colorado, ASU, and other recent adds that weaken BB. Seems kind of insulting honestly to Brett Yormark

    UConn’s value is basically Fox’s new Big East TV contract. If UConn leaves, Fox reduces the Big East payout to pennies on the dollar, so moving UConn from the Big East to B12 is like moving money from right pocket to left pocket. ESPN also wants UConn’s rights and will pay, so the B12 should leverage ESPN’s offer for a greater payout. The value is there if the B12 is smart and doesn’t want to be shutout from the Northeast

    I'm no expert but as the media landscape shrinks, sports are more in demand, and sports like Men's and Women's college basketball provide a huge amount of inventory of games, I only see their value increasing. Football will always be king but companies typically bundle things when they want to provide a discount. So it stands to reason that unbundling them would provide more revenue for the schools. I can also see how ESPN and Fox would want to try to force the conferences to keep the media rights as one package both for lower prices but also to keep a stranglehold on the industry. If they get it all, that means NBC, Amazon, or Netfix etc. can't get it.

With a-la-carte, the buyer is happier because they don't have to take something they don't want and the seller is happier because they can find the highest bidder for that asset instead of giving it to someone who doesn't value it.

      Except what other potential bidders that could afford to pay for stand alone basketball rights aren't also bidding for the football rights? The media industry is highly concentrated to a handful of companies, most if not all who, if they had the capital to invest in basketball, wouldn't rather invest that money in football at this time. As Bob Thompson rightly called out, you're potentially reducing your bidding interest.

  • @WildkatPhoto
    @WildkatPhoto Před dnem

    Ill start by saying that Mr. Thompson is an actual professional in this business and I am not. Having said that, I think he is off base with the basketball numbers. Last year ISU at KSU drew 418K viewers at 2:45 Eastern on a Saturday on ESPN2. That what San Diego State vs Oregon State drew in week 3 at 3:30 PM on FS1...for football. the next week OSU at ISU drew 444K on FS1 for football. KState at KU drew 800K on a Tuesday night on ESPN for a game that started at 9:22 Eastern. In Week 8 UVA at UNC drew 788K. A lot of the realignment talk has been about the value of UNC and UVA (less UVA) and a 6:30pm Saturday game between them is getting out drawn by KState/KU that ended just before midnight on a week night. KU at Houston drew 1.1m on a Saturday afternoon. I think he has it all wrong on the "commodity" part of college basketball. Having 30+ games per team is an advantage, not a disadvantage. Because of streaming, you dont have to gamble on putting the "right" game on in any given time slot and you are not going to lose viewers because their team wasn't chosen. Every game is available, you just have to choose the right stream. Oh and you can charge them for access to that stream so you can cover all your cost for the entire season just off subscriptions. Its a lot easier to get 200K people to watch 2 games in a week than get 6.4m people to watch one game but 200K x 32 games (16 teams, 2 games a week) is 6.4m viewers. Georgia at Tennessee got 5.7m viewers last year and was the number 1 game of week 12.

    ACC will almost always get TWO teams in, ACC champ and Notre Dame(ACC team inelligible for ACC champ game by agreement of scheduling autonomy, save for the pandemic year when an exception for the championship game was made, and ND did compete for ACC Title..)...some years ACC will get a third. AND that Notre Dame schedule you read off, that is far more difficult than ANY Big 12 schedule, is the main reason why they'll trump any non champ Big12 team of the same record, every time.

      (Save for UTAH, TCUvMichigan)what has any remaining B12 team ever won? B12 is glorified G5 bush-league . That's how the rest of country believes and will believe until proven otherwise

      Everyone says Notre Dame has an “easy” schedule. Before they did the ACC thing, their schedule was exactly a BIG 10 Schedule. People forget the Michigan, Michigan St, and Penn State rivalries. Then when did made alliances with the ACC. Their strength of schedule was the same as Clemson's. Then if you want to get nerdy in the analytics. At worst their strength of schedule was 17. PLEASE NAME ONE LEGIT SCHOOL IN THE BIG IX??? Like KU has a chance to win your conference. One last point they always had to go through Reggie Bush’s dynasty era team in the regular season. Yes they lost, but it was the BCS days and 1 lost had you out of the BCS. They scheduled Ohio State and Georgia as a non-conferences games. As Regina George would say, “I can't help it that I am so popular.”

      @@ryansteve2893 Big 10 fan here (Ohio State). Oklahoma State and Utah. These two schools are in the same tier I that Notre Dame is for EA College Sports. They receive the same $99K that Ohio State and Notre Dame receives. Personally, I think that either the SEC or my conference will pay you that 10% and get one of our schools in there.

    Unfortunately the Neer’s didn’t show up to play in their own building. Way to let the big 12 down
