Charleston Rat at Scotiacon 2024 Dance Competition

Welp, as the old saying goes, "etter late than never".
Since I couldn't afford to fly to Fur the More this year, I decided to instead attend Scotoacon (which marked only my second UK con and my first ever time in Scotland). And, of course, I entered their dance competition.
My friend in the audience wasn't in a good spot to record the performance, and the only furs I could find footage of it from were from Scotiacon themselves and from Harry Husky. Scotiacon captured the whole dance but focused too much on my upper body. Harry got my lower body as well as my upper, but didn't record the whole thing.
Therefore, I've been meaning to edit the two clips together to get the best of both. And at long flipping last, after months of putting it on the backburner, I've gotten around to doing it! this video's hardly going to win me the Oscar for best editing, but it does the job :-D

It may have changed but a LOT of people in the 90s were actually dedicated pagans. The only out atheist/agnostic types were kind of jerks. Jay Naylor is an Objectivist and kind of an ass, and 2 the ranting Gryphon remains an ass, just more right wing now. Also a lot of people were legacy therians, meaning they transitioned to the fandom through therianthopy and therian groups. But mostly, it's more to say furries tend to be "unreligious" as in they may be lapsed or very like average people, who are just nominally named in a religion.

As an asexual furry the amount of "Oh you mean the sex thing?/You mean bestiality?/Do you "do it" in the suit?" comments I get is disappointing. They act shocked and ask why I participate in this "fetish" when I'm ace and use it as a means of discrediting my orientation. Those people are grossly misinformed, and use it to spread hate. I just like the idea of being a rainbow dragon and having a character I can use to express my personality anonymously. It helps with dealing with my social anxiety and making new friends since I'm neurodivergent and struggle to socialize normally. People really gotta work on the stigma and do the research instead of jumping to conclusions and spreading rumors.

When it was said that fursuits can cost as mush as $2,000 I was "HOW OLD IS THIS VIDEO!!!" Now days you can spend well over two grand just on the head alone.

Thank you so much for your kind words! 😄 Honestly, I was terrified about opening my routine with ASL. I wanted to do it because I love learning about languages and it felt right for the song. However, like you, I'm a hearing person. I was scared not just because I might screw it up, but also because it might have been seen as appropriative. Sign language is, after all, at the core of Deaf culture. I absolutely suck at learning languages (spoken, written or signed), but I hope using it in my routine inspires someone to learn ASL better than I ever will 😊

Sign language is definitely at the core of deaf culture, but there's a whole world of hearing people who also use it! I'm certain nobody saw it as offensive. If anything, I was jealous that my own paws don't show signs as well, but I do use some more obvious ones when suiting haha. Do you know if anybody posted the entire dance competitions/dances in general? I'm having a hard time finding them.

Which is also why I can do all those cane tricks 😂 As for a video of the entire dance, the last I heard was that it was finally uploaded to Google Drive and someone going to publish it on YT.
