This was clever. It's easy to understand the trick but it really reveals the importance of the set up and storytelling for this type of magic. What seems like just random waffling and jokes is basically the key to making the trick work.

This is the FIRST time I've understood Penn's code. "The Middle" because each letter is turned into what he needs it to be in the middle.

I'm almost always entertained by the acts on Fool Us, whether I know how they work or not. Not so much this time. That's OK by me. I still love Penn & Teller's Fool Us.

Such a childish trick to perform looks like a opportunity missed

Seemed like on of the more obvious tricks i've ever seen.

Crazy thing is, I just sat here and picked the numbers my self, and I picked exactly the same numbers as Alison did!

This is the only trick at P&T that I was able to figure out by myself. It made it even more enjoyable to watch. What an awesome act. Thank you, Yann!

I figured this one out on my own when he had the woopsie ending. I have had the fortune of watching Penn and Teller figure out enough other tricks of course. We are all a little more educated these days. lol Still a highly entertaining and fun trick even if you can figure it out... great presentation.

Wow a trick I figured out almost immediately!

Very charming. And funny -- Penn and Teller really appreciate the humor in magic and they could tell this guy was one of them. Easy to figure out but it was clever and well executed.

Kind of lame, you can see the slits on the boards where he can change the H to a M or N or U or A easily.

I'd like to have a decoder for Penn & Teller.

"the way the middle is constructed on this" is the clue. notice how all the words at the end have a straight line each side and the middle has to be constructed in a way where before he flips in he can cover the middle white with blue or blue with the white.

I figured it out as it was going on, and then when Penn explained it afterwards, I could actually understand the code. He doesn't just speak code in one part of the response, the ENTIRE RESPONSE is the code, deconstructing the trick without telling the audience how it's done. That's truly amazing, and I would love to do this one myself

i think this was the first time i got the code of Penn. then again i felt sus about one thing because its something visual and it turned out thats right. for the sake of not ruining it for others i wont say what. Still very enjoyable performance

Yay, I figured it out before Penn gave his clues at the end. It was like I was the magician trying to pick up on his code words, and I did! That was fun to have that experience!

Great trick! I understand the method, now I'm just stuck with the number 5 in my head all day and how to add that to many things in life. ;)

I can understand the “trick” being that each painting can be referred to as many things so that in any order they always spell human. What I’m still trying to figure out is how he got the letters in the back to be in the correct order

That one was pretty simple story wise to figure out. Not a clue how the props actually work to change the back on, but it was pretty enjoyable to watch!

Even though I know what he had to do in the Middle of the trick to make it work (if Alyson wasn't a stooge but he letter choose whatever she wanted), I never saw him do it (after replaying segments over and over) and I have NO idea HOW he did it.

All Allyson had to do was remember the order of five words. It's as if she wasn't at the rehearsal at all. Pat'he'tic.

Because it leaves too much to chance, I would never perform this trick. When the assistant walks on stage with the papers in the envelope, there will always be a 1-in-5 chance that the first paper is correct as to the first painting. Considering only those cases that meet this 1-in-5 chance, there will always be 1-in-4 where the second paper is correct as to the second painting. And so on. There are 120 different ways Alyson could have positioned the paintings. Therefore the chances that the papers that someone forgot to put into the envelope will always have ONE MISMATCH are 1-in-120. In the extreme long run this trick will work only 119 out of every 120 times that it is performed. During the remaining performance the papers will come out in the order that perfectly matches the paintings. And then the magician would have to improvise. I wonder what I would do if it were me. I might say, if I had to go off-script with no time to think about it, "Well, so you see, I accurately predicted the order of the paintings beforehand. Ta-da!". I probably couldn't come up with anything better than the pretense that the trick just worked and that I'd PLANNED for it to work. And then I'd have to hope that the audience buys it. But WOULD they fall for it if it's presented as a magic-trick successfully done? I just don't know.

One of the few tricks I was able to piece together, but one of the even fewer still that was *better* once i knew. Beautiful performance!

Wonderful performance. This trick stays nice to watch again even when you know how it's done, perhaps bevause now you can enjoy it in a second way to marvel at how smooth it was done.
