How do you go about downgrading from mayday to pan-pan? That bit isn't explained apart from saying you can at the very beginning.
What about a description of your vessel?
That really depends on what the situation is - is it certainly one of the supplementary questions that the Coastguard will ask you but it is not required for a Mayday message. It is very useful to add it into the Pan Pan call if you are looking for a tow.
In a mayday relay situation you wouldn't mention your MMSI, though, according to the current radio regulations from ITU WRC-07.
The best online on this😊
Glad you think so!

Thank you for making this video. I just got a radar (and AIS) for the first time so it was invaluable. Oh, and you’re a great teacher.
Glad it helped!
Thank you for this wonderful explanation - a great help for me to memorise the shapes and lights for my yachtmaster exam. ❤❤
Excellent, concise summary thank you. Decades since I last did this so the triangles are a welcome new technique.
Glad it was helpful!
First picture: that boat is not sinking, it is built to sail that way, it is quite funny.
Seriously brilliant- so clear concise and great explanations of terminology. Delighted to have found you
where is seasonal correction here in the calculation please?
Sound?
Hi Kath. Thanks for your amazing videos. So structured and clear. Well done. May I ask about the significance of the difference making way and under way respectively Nav Lights On or not (slide on minute 6:00): Why does the ColRegs differ here? Maybe I am just annouyed atm by learning this. But there must be any kind of importance about this difference I havent figured out yet. Thanks.
You are underway when you are no longer fast to the shore, at anchor or aground. You are making way when you are being propelled by your main machinery.
just got a raise with this video, thanks. Amazing explanation.
Thanks for the accurate explanation. Could you al me to understand at the minute 20 of the tutorial, concern the mean spring and neep curves, how can I know if is spring or neep in this case?
Hi Stefano, you take the range for the day from the Almanac (HW - LW) and compare to the box on the tidal curve to see if it springs or neaps.
Such a truly lovely voice.
This helped me immensley with my YM appreciate the input
Thank you 🙏
How come some weathermen call it "reduced" visibility? Is that incorrect?
Very Helpful, Thanks
Why is Passage Planning Berth to Berth?
water doesn't curve.
Why doesn't it?
Good video i didnt like them flashing lights though 😅
Genuinely curious: at level 2 is this the only scenario you would encourage students to leave the helm with engine running? I’m a fairly new instructor so it’s always interesting to see how real instructors do rather than the “RYA” way
Do you add variation?
Thanks
SuperDupper!! But @min 13:17.. you will not have that Fl R 2.5s 15m light into your stern. You will have it first on your port broad reach, and once you will see the bridge light in 308 deg, you will change towards it and you will have that light into your stern :) I do love all your videos, and right now I'm recap for my YMO (wish me luck please!!) :))) Thank you for your lovely and comprehensive tutorials!!!! Fair winds!
I just seen a odd looking meteor right angle, SsW It arched towards the west. I watched it falling downward, I heard only one Sonic boom then 10-20 secs later I heard a rumbling like a large plane but nothing was in the sky Weird!
These are really excellent presentations - thank you. So much easier to pass exams when you get help like this! Moot point but you spell a ship's DRAUGHT that way - and NOT 'draft', the way you have spelled it.
These tutorials are quite superb. Thank you very much for the clarity, information and little tips for remembering things. Just excellent.
Hi, Can I say that you are brilliant? I am 72 and about to start a day skipper theory course and am terrified about learning sooo much. You have been a great help with my preparation. Many many thanks
Best of luck!
Shouldn’t number 4 on the test have a red sidelight because we are looking at the port aspect?
Really appreciate this video. I'm doing a course and I really understand everything to the tee. So simplified. Thank you ma'am.
Great work again
Whats best kind of life jacket to purchase to practice entering water from the side? The orange foam ones are 150N will these bring you straight back up? The inflatable ones go up 200+Ns, I had a fear of stepping in recently on PST course so intend buy my own life jacket and practice stepping in at my local pool in shallower water
Why do all the people swim in their clothes on? Is it because they jump off a plane or fall off a boat?
These videos are brilliant!!
Great video - thank you

Why would you EVER sound 5 short blasts in a RIB to ask the other driver WTF he is doing instead of merely streeing away from him?
Hi Tim, thanks for watching the video. The RIB on the slides is just an indicative vessel to show how the sound signals relate to port/starboard/astern of the vessel.
@@CompassSeaSchool OK sure. Thanks for your videos. They helped me just get through my Advanced Powerboat exam yesterday in Southampton.
