I enjoyed every bit of this episode as I was enlightened by a scholar about the history of Chittagong and Arakan Kingdom. People of Chittagong and Rohingya people from Arakan have very similar language and now I know the long intertwined history in between Chittagong, Bengal and Arakan. Unfortunately, current military junta in Burma expelling brown Rohingya people citing illegal immigrants from Bangladesh, even though they have been living in Arakan for centuries. It would have been interesting to discuss about the dynasties such as Chandra dynasty that controlled general areas of Arakan; even before Arakan became a kingdom.

The kingdom of Arakan existed way before 8th century and it used to be a place where people used to trade like the Arabs who traded in the region in the 8th till the 17th century

Such a smart and experienced Burmese author. I do not support economic sanctions against Myanmar; I feel economic sanctions should be reserved only for specific and desperate situations where they despite their dishonorable, oppressive, and cowardly odium they are the only safe means of leverage that can be utilized. The recent DNA test results found that Indian DNA is witnessed in the South , Mons mainly in the Central and Khmers in NE ect.

The underlying reason that ethnic armed groups started to from, around the country at the same time (after the General Ne Win’s Coup) has to do with the injustice that the Burmese military were conducting towards ethnic minorities/leaders. Calling ethnic armed organizations ‘INSURGENTS’ at 39:05 in the video, perfectly summarizes another reason that is wrong with this country. And that is the need to recognize ethnic minorities’ identities and to that extend it’s ethnic armed groups. However, although many of these ethnic armed groups have changed their objectives and to some extend has given more hardship to it’s people/ethnicity. It is the idea of ‘sticking to our kInd’ and loyalty that had me offended when he label ethnic armed groups as ‘Insurgents’. Many of these Insurgents are now fighting against the Burmese military. It quite ironic only when your own military turns on you, that you can see the truth. During the genocide of the Rohingya people a lot of burmese people denied that it ever happened. Only when their own military turned on them that they accept what had happened. Truly pathetic. I write this as an ethnic minority from Myanmar. I do agree with most of the points in the video

Phanom Sawai (Surin) is Svayambhuva - lingas). Refer to inscription Preah Vihear1,2,4 Suriyavarman I had asked nobility name “Machindra” and his relative relocated to “Rang Krol” Baan Kok Muang(city) , Tambon Svay and Phanom Krol(what we call now) and where Machindra Royal had born. Due to Political issue we always were blinded.

I was intereated to listen this presentation as I come from Chittagong. My native language is Chittagong language. It is clear from this discussion that the decline or fall of the kindom of Arakan lies in the king's brutal betrayal to the Mughal Prince Shah Suja who took refuge to the king. The very important fact the presenter didn't put light on is that the king was greedyly looked on the so beautiful wife and daughers of the Prince. He killed Prince Shah Suja along with his family and other companions upon refusal when the king wanted to marry Suja's beautiful daughter. This was the same Prince Suja (who was the governor of Mughal Chittagong) who helped the Arakan King to regain his Kingdom by fighting back the Burmese King. That time Arakan King took refuge to Governor Prince Suja in Chittagong after being defeated by the Burmese King. The brutal act of massacre of the Suja's family and companion had a mixed reaction between the Muslims and the Buddhist inhabitants of the kingdom's capital Mrauk U and which sparked the riot between them. Now, I got the point, the base, why the inhumane Buddhists of Rakhine state is brutally killing and ethnic cleansing the Rohingya people now..

Talk about angry CZcams comments (also in denial)... Also, for those offended by the guy's bluntness (some Thais can be quite blunt, I'll admit), don't use that as an excuse to reject this guy's ideas, use the real reason why you don't like it, which is nationalism historiography.

I wonder if it's accurate or not to compare the Late Ayutthaya period to the Late Roman Empire/High Middle Ages Byzantine Empire, the loss of manpower during this period sounds very similar to the Great Plague and the rise of guilds.

Perspective was introduced from the West, you are correct. Previously, the size of an object or person denoted its importance. My collection clearly illustrates the transition from Chinese style perspective to isometric and eventually western perspective.

It always tickles me that the film Star Wars is the Ramayana for the West, even including a monkey.

If only there was an English version of this.

This presentation is absolute treasure. It has answered so many questions I have about Ayutthaya. Hopefully these murals are being preserved well, they are absolutely fantastic. Also, thank you so much to Chris Baker & Pasuk Phongpaichit for their many works on the History of the Ayuttaya Kingdom. I have read A history of Ayutthaya: Siam in the Early Modern World & it is easily one of my favorites books on Thai history.

Mrauk U was the last capital city of Kingdom of Arakan (Rakhine). Till today, it has live under the heart of the Arakanese people, who managed to carry out the history of the kingdom and their way of life. Thanks for the video.
