I'm reminded of the MEDEA performance in the early 1960s when some of the Loggionisti were hissing during her singing, and Callas walked to the footlights, raised her fist and sang her next line, "Ho datto tutto a te" into their faces and through the back wall. Here she is indeed giving everything she has, maybe even more, and is able to accomplish it through youth, technique and discipline. It should also be noted that it was before her weight loss and she had reserves of physical core/support to draw on. Astonishing vocalism. Dangerous for one's vocal longevity, but astonishing all the same. She wisely dropped the role after performing it 3 times total. The audio here is indeed the most listenable version I've encountered, though nothing can be done about the orchestra prominence/distortion unless a new source copy comes to light. After 74 years, it seems unlikely.
