You should always check to see if you Harley Davidson motor need to be shimmed. It's important that the motor is mounted on a flat surface. This prevents vibration and case wear. You bolt the back of the engine down and torque it to specs then get feeler gauges to check the front mounts. I look for .003 inches or less. You can get shim stock to the size you need on Amazon. Great video, however I stated to watch this because intro picture shows Twin Power Oil Pump and I thought that this is good guide for it. Do you have any guide how to connect oil houses to Twin Power pump ? Thanks in advance.
I don’t have a video for a twin power pump however, I do have a video on the hose routing on a shovel head. That would pretty much be the same as an Evo.
TY, I have the same ignition and I'm trying to figure out the best advance curve to use. My bike is a 93 ci bored and stroked FXWG shovelhead with dual plug heads. I'm going with zero dead revs and curve 3 for now as it sets advance to 32 degrees. 28 to 32 degrees seems to be the consensus as to what advance to start with. Trial and error from there. Multiple factors determine what will work best for your bikes set-up. What's your opinion on which to use?
I would start out at 35° advanced unless you’re running a lot of compression. If you start to hear it ping then I would retard the timing to 32°. As for what curve I think I would go with curve number two that’s a little more aggressive.
I would only go with zero dead revs if it’s a kickstart bike if it’s not kickstart, then you definitely want the three dead revs that it comes with.
@@Rapsgarage TY. It's kick and elec start.
Definitely 0 dead revs. If you need your 2000i programmed, let me know

What is the deal with the brake plate and that little freaking spring crap man
I think all that stuff is supposed to stop them from squealing.
@@Rapsgarage cool. I'm having a hard time reinstalling the rear caliper. It looks to me like it's got to go on the bike before the wheel... So you got to get everything installed with enough space between the brake pads to roll the wheel into position. I had the wheel on with the bracket and I couldn't get the caliper attached to the bracket with the brake pads and the two little metal clips that go on each side and the spring rod..... I don't know what the heck I'm doing wrong here..... Got any tips
@@Rapsgarage disregard my last I think I got it
Awesome!
How stiff is the shifter mechanism supposed to be? Mine is a bit stiff feeling and when all installed together with forks and gears etc it is tough to turn by hand.
Without the springs it should be really easy. The springs are stiff. With that said I’d put the shifter arm on the shift shaft so that you have some leverage and try it. Also you have to have the transmission in the motorcycle since the shafts need the support of right side case to keep them aligned. Let me know if you have any other questions. Hey man , I’ve got a question for you. My 03 Dyna does not want to get spark and I have replaced the ignition, coil, spark plugs, voltage regulator, and crankshaft sensor. It just wants to crank and crank but won’t turn over. Maybe you have some idea of what it could be ? It’s getting plenty of fuel as well
Is it carbureted or fuel injection? Also, Harley offers the wiring diagram online for free go to Google put in your year bike and put in wiring diagram. I would check to make sure it has 12 V power coil. I would then start checking that you have 12 V power at the module for the spark. If it’s fuel injection, that would be the ECM. If you have further trouble, you can send me your phone number and I can help you over the phone. My email address is. hdrap_1999@yahoo.com
Check all of your fuses
@@Rapsgarage okay sweet thank you very much I really appreciate it. I will test that out tomorrow and get back to you
Are you saying to check the voltage on the ignition module itself ?
Yes, there should be constant power plus a switch power then check the 12 V on the coil also and then check the grounds on the ignition module.
Is your bike setup for advancing & retarding the timing / manually rotating the distributor via a cable connected to the left throttle grip? Is that what the bracket is for?
Yes and yes

In my video, I show you how to check the plug wires. I would doubt that both of them went bad at the same time.
What was the actual voltage from the starter relay over to the solenoid? would be nice to know.
It’s just a set of contacts so what goes in should be what comes out… 12 volts or battery voltage. If you have a voltage drop across the contacts the relay is bad. If you need further help, let me know. Thanks for watching and if you haven’t, please subscribe.

My Dad had one in college before he went to Korea.
Very cool. I thank your dad for his service to our country.
Suggestion, when installing the fuel tanks. even if they were previously on the frame. Install the rear nuts/washers and the upper long bolts and doing this one tank at a time cinch down the rear nuts and watch/check the front upper and lower tank mounts for light contact with the frame at the mounting surfaces. I ran into problems with OE factory installed tanks on frames that were not evenly contacting the front mounting points back in the early 1980's I suffered a broken upper tank mount on my personal knuckle that the tanks were original to the frame before I learned this. It is simple to move/tweak the rear mount to obtain even contacting at the front two mounts prior to final assembly, just sayin, and you missed the front screw on the dash, I also place a short wood screw into the center of the tank divider that is near the end of the divider that fits under the cover with the head facing up prior to tightening the dash cover down to keep the divider from slipping out when the bike is in use, used glue prior to figuring his out. Ask me how I know this after loosing a couple 🤣🤣🤣🤣Otherwise pretty good video. Used brass floats until I had on leak somewhere in the early/mid 90's, discussed the leaking/cracking issue with Bob Stark of Starklite back then and he told me how to determine between a early float and a late made float. Early/original brass floats had a dead end thread in the installed nut in the float while the late stuff had nuts with through threads that commonly sunk. Been using Nitrophyl floats in my own stuff and all rebiulds that I still do, since they came out even though I retired a couple of years ago, might still have a new sealed cork float around somewhere but that is me. 👍👍
@@user-ng9pz4fj3n awesome advice that I’ve never heard before. I did have to tweak the tank mounts when I originally put the tanks on in the late 90’s but assumed that nothing changed since but you never know, like you said. I should have bought more of the brass floats back then because they are the best I’ve ever had so far, but hindsight is 20/20. Thank you for sharing this knowledge in an educational way. If you see other things in my videos, please post and input because I’m always willing to learn. I do know you’ve posted great advice in the past on my channel. Thank you

My bike is a 03 carburetor and loosing fire at the coil . I can ride a half hour a it dies. Let it sit 10 or 15 minutes and it’ll start up and go until it does it again. I’ve checked the coil . It’s good .
@@tchogworks1987 that sounds like a bad crank position sensor. The other check you can try is as soon as it dies spray it with some starting fluid to verify that it’s not a fuel issue so you don’t waste money and time.

The part number is in the description. As for an old-school Shovelhead, they were a few different ones. I’d have to see it to know better.

Not sure if you’ll see this but I just filled my oil bag and now I have oil in the cam chest. Should I drain it to ensure no oil gets in the tappets?
You want your tappets dry when you adjust them. Like I show in my video. Oil in the cam chest isn’t gonna matter, but there is a check that’s supposed to hold oil in the oil tank until the pump starts to turn. When this check doesn’t hold the oil up in the oil tank, that’s when you have the summing issues. So to answer your question, oil in the cam chest isn’t a problem when you’re adjusting your lifters. I hope this answers your question if it didn’t, please let me know.
