Hills are NOT harder than cycling on flats! (On a gravel bike)
Join me on an exhilarating cycling adventure as I conquer the highest peak in the Ayrshire region, Brown Carrick Hill, just outside the historic town of Ayr, Scotland. This challenging yet rewarding ride takes us from the charming streets of Ayr, passing iconic landmarks such as the Ayr Racecourse, the birthplace of Scotland’s famous poet Robert Burns, and the stunning Ayr Beach.
Our journey begins in the heart of Ayr, where we cycle past the grand Town hall, Burns Cottage where the national bard was born and the atmospheric ruins of the Auld Kirk. As we leave the town behind, we’ll pedal through lush countryside, with breathtaking views of the Firth of Clyde and the Isle of Arran in the distance.
The climb to Brown Carrick Hill is steep, but the panoramic views from the summit are well worth the effort. On a clear day, you can see as far as Northern Ireland! Whether you’re an experienced cyclist or just love beautiful scenery, this ride offers an unforgettable experience. Don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more epic cycling adventures in Scotland!

    Is the front derailleur clamp removable? (Assume it’s not a band on style, but perhaps the clamp fixture can be removed with bolts?)

    I would only recommend gorilla tape if you are doing a mullet conversion of a non-tubeless ready rim. Reason being that that tape is very thick and it can prevent the tire from being able to move up onto the edge of the rim where it needs to be seated. People really seem to like the 3M 8896/8898 strapping tape as an alternative to the name-brand tubeless tapes. I would also recommend that you only try converting your other bikes using tubeless ready tires. It is possible to use a tubeless tire on a standard rim and make it work, but it's almost impossible to get a non-tubeless tire to seal on any rim - the bead just isn't designed for it.

      I did many years ago go from the coast side, the hill just after the house halfway up is extremely difficult! I use the gravel bike more now as there is not much difference in my speed to the road bike, more comfortable and the gearing ratio is not as punishing 🙊 Thanks for watching, appreciate the support and time you took to comment! I’ll need to try some of your routes out 🙌

    • @ThatCyclingChimp
      @ThatCyclingChimp Před 2 měsíci

      Thanks for watching! For shoes I am using Fizik Terra Climba x2 SPD. So far these are the most comfortable shoes i have owned. The recessed cleat on the sole just works perfectly for cycling and walking off the bike. They are also “weatherproof”. For pedals on The Green Hornet I installed the Shimano PD-500s one side is clipless the other side is flat. I opted for these for flexibility but these were my first pedals that were on Shadowfax originally to teach me how to ride clipless.

He and his pals used to ride all over Scotland, in all weathers, on steel 10 speed bikes, staying in in hostels and camping out (can you imagine the midgies?). They had great lingo. Dad always said "miles build stamina, but hills create character." Making tea was "drumming up." And running out of energy (bonking) was "getting the knock."
