The Springs
A year ago, we bought an abandoned trout farm.
A beautiful place in it's prime, but years of neglect had left it run down and overgrown. The lakes were clogged with silt and weeds, water levels were all over the place, but we found a healthy stock of fish surviving.
We've spent the year clearing the place and trying to get things working again.
The weather seems to always be against us and a non-existent budget isnt helping, but with determination and ingenuity we'll make it something special.
The aim is to make it somewhere pleasant to stay and enjoy nature.
There's a lot of work ahead.

i had to take my cats in to get their presciption for felpreva a week ago aswell.. i refused to buy it from the same vet.. its cheaper to a years presciption from the vet then i brought a years worth online .
Then when all the herons come in you’ll be counting down 👍🏻
Yes, the heron comes every so often, he knows our routine as well so avoids times we're around. I don't want to ruin the pond with netting or anything, hopefully he won't get too many, there's plenty of places for them to hide and I can spare a few. He's welcome to the rudd out the lake, we've got far too many!

I know Liam knows his way around a Fishing rod and a chainsaw but I had no idea he could swing a pick-axe! Lad is full of surprises
lovely, could easily spend hours just sat there watching them.. like having an outdoor aquarium.. very well done.. i hope they thrive. x
They seem to be doing well, spend a lot of time on the top compared to the rudd too. I saw a tiny baby goldfish earlier, so I think they're even spawning already. Loads of baby carp and rudd too, so they're definitely enjoying it there. We might even need to introduce a couple of perch to stop us being inundated with fry like the lower lake is. You can literally catch a few with every dip of a net now.

The excessive algae bloom will be caused by too much nitrogen getting into the pond. Definitely stop throwing any extra food in for a while and make sure no fertiliser get in there either. The fish should be able to get food on their the own. X
We'd better get some chickens to eat our leftovers then!

I'm sure they had a health a and safety reason for not doing so, I don't think the chains would have been long enough to retract the crane fully, and we needed as little height as possible 😅 Well impressed with the job they did, top guys 👍🏻
