Saving Soils Camelina - '24 Plot Shot 12
Trevor Deering takes us on a tour through the camelina trials in our Saving Soils project, evaluating seeding dates for camelina. This project explores the possibility of using camelina as a winter crop to maintain soil structure and reduce soil erosion over-winter.
This project has three seeding dates replicated in dryland and irrigation fields.

Do you have a rice field in Lethbridge or any county in Alberta that has been successful? Will you please share video. Thanks
We're putting in AAC Glenview Sanfoin. One field will be 100% AAC Glenview, the other two will be planted first with AAC Glenview and then after the first cut we're going to drill in some Orchard Grass or some Brome. A bunch of the big alfalfa feeders around us are watching how our 20 acres goes as they are genuinely curious to see how it goes. We flood irrigate and are located in SE Idaho and feed @14 horses. We also use a fertilizer/soil healer made from kelp, fish and worm castings. It has a lot of beneficial fungi, bacteria and micro nutrients that has helped our grass be ready to cut about 2½ weeks ahead of our neighbors. It is manufactured locally near us. Fields smell.like seaweed and molasses when we spray on the soil conditioner.
Very informative
Thanks for valuable informations, Nice content 👏

Out of interest, have you planted any rice anywhere that's just under whatever rain you can get (no pivot, no drip, or if there is then it's parked), and how's that been for you? I know where you are is a dry place so I wondered how you'd be dealing rainfed.
😂😂😂😂😂😂 then get our farmers a giant to theresh😂😂😂 our crop
Brilliant.
How did the rice turn out I am from southern Quebec and last year i had a smale rice harvest. Last years seeds were used. This y 2023, i am doing direct seeding upland and a paddi with upland rice to. The harvest is possible by selecting survivors of the harshest conditions.
Will you be rotating wheat in the same strip till beds? On 15 inch you would 2 rows of wheat. I'm interested in ongoing benefits/disadvantages in using it as a whole system

I am excited for the conference this year!!!!! Great job Sean.
What if you already have cold grain that you need to pull moisture out of? Isn't it good to warm it back up on a low humidity day so it can be cooled and dried again at night?

Hello, im growing hemp indoor in npk organic soil, do i need to add extra fertiliser??

How much of leaves would I have to consume to get 780 mg of Iron into my body ?
I believe the leaves are loaded with iron similar to that of algea and spinach but with a different taste and the leaves possibly have lots of calcium but not sure although I know for sure the seeds have loads of calcium .
Nice. 👍 I drive a Hege 140 and a Haldrup 85C.
What application are you using on the laptop?
irrigation+rainfall = evaporation + transpiration + runoff + leaching Which one of these processes do Farmers really have control over during the growing season? If you have the ability to irrigate your sandy soils and water is cheap and plentiful, then you are fortunate and have some control on the left side of the equation. If you do not have irrigation, you must look at the factors on the right side of the equation to see what can be controlled or minimized to benefit your crop. Evaporation from the soil surface can be reduced with mulch or leaving crop residue on the soil surface. Transpiration is a function of the plant leaf surface area and the weather. Runoff is or should be minimal in sandy textured soils with high percolation rates. This leaves the leaching of water out of the root zone as the #1 controllable loss of moisture to your crop. Interrupting the downward movement of moisture in your soil by installing a "smart" barrier can greatly reduce the leaching of water and nutrients. SWRT subsurface membranes detain/retain up to 90% of irrigation or rainfall in the root zone for crop use by disrupting the gravitational movement of water in the soil while still allowing excess water to percolate and do not create anaerobic soil conditions.
Bbbbbuttt the state, forbid thiiis,,, how come??? Poor people ooooooo,,,???
Thank you, Dr. Zavala. I'll try the tests. Have noticed when it rains, the water pools on top the clay loam soil and stays very clean. Thought I had a drainage issue but am becoming aware that improving infiltration is part of the solution.
I'm looking but can't find the one I saw a couple years ago called cereal killers. About the history of cereal companies and how they put it iron shavings in them!
some interesting facts
This video is very informative. I'm not a farmer just someone who world builds for fun; And I was curious about breeding wheat and crops in general. I'm sure you know this but I recently found out that the Marquis Wheat Strain is one that was invented in Canada by Charles E. Saunders in 1902. So it's nice to see it's still going strong more than 120 years later
I am looking for financing for Industrial Hemp and Cannabidiol (CBD) on an area of 16 hectares
What have we been thinking? I image a similar situation applies to hay drying too except that in the field it catches the dew. Now, although this may be irrelavant, how much quicker drying could be achieved by using chilled air?
This man is boring 😴 plus doesn't teach what to do. Talks too much.
