My Orvis 9 wt rod broke on a saltwater fishing trip. I got this combo today in 10wt as a backup to not destroy my trip and before i get it fixed or replaced. Love the reel up at first glance. It seems like a great deal for the price. My flyfishing experience is 20 yrs in freshwater + but only 3 yrs in saltwater fly fishing. I find saltwater is on another level. Any saltwater dudes and dudettes out there who have tried this kit??? Let me know how its holding up after you hooked snook...jack trevally....bonefish...redfish....stripper bass etc.

What’s the best type of line for this type of fishing?

I just started fishing Z-man plastics, and I use gorilla glue to keep the plastic right on the jighead. It worked well, I caught quite a few bass and the rig held up. Others use small zip-ties to keep the plastic on the head, and I did too for a while. The other option is that Z-man does make jigheads for their plastics.

I tried it with a 5-foot 3/16" I'll use for peanut bunker and I got more or less flat pancakes on my first 5 throws! Can't wait to try it with my 8-foot net. I'm pretty sure you can't beat Gulp, especially for flounder. For bigger flatties I'm starting to prefer the 5" swimming mullet and a 3/8 or 1/2 oz jig head. But the shrimp, jerk shads, paddle tails and other patterns work too.

As a guide, you need to show those people the proper way to fight a fish on a rod. You don't continue to reel in line when your fish is pulling drag. Your rod is your tool to properly fight your fish. Please use it the right way. Don't reach up and grab your rod above the handle like the lady was doing. That is a good way to break a rod.

Trout in Florida and Reds is one hook rig only. Fyi.

Maybe I should use other lures more often but I fish a lot and almost always use jigs. They just work. Lately I've been experimenting with jig heads with soinner blades and doing well with them in dirty water. The Strike King Trout Magic is good but I order Dr Fish brand from Amazon. They're way cheaper and they work. They work well with Gulp and Z Man tails.

It appeared to be the lesser bridge that you were at. Where was the shallow areas? The lessner bridge is so bad for snags when using a bottom setup. You have ant tips for not getting snagged every ten minutes?
