Slaves are actually good in Vic2 late game because they work for lower wages and if your economy is too developed all your African coffee farmers will rather be unemployed than making money because the coffee price is dirt cause Brazil still has slavery

Who cares if capitalists build a lot of bad factories. They eventually hit on a profitable one and it frees you from the insane micromanagement that industry requires in a big economy. I think the real enemy is that capitalists can't destroy factories in any form of economy except laisez-faire. So you have to continually open the industry tab and destroy bad factories capitalists build so they can try new ones. I accept that that's janky, but it's a very difficult and not yet achieved programming fix to make capitalists more prescient and a very easy one to just make them self-correcting by letting them destroy their bad decisions when they don't work out. Even players can't choose factories right. When you do everything right like choosing a good that has a high price. build the factory in a region with the correct RGOs/other factories to boost production, and the goods tab says your country has a supply of inputs, it's still a crapshoot whether that factory is profitable or not. You find that out very quickly when you decide to make goods that are consistently in high demand a few years into the game like Steamers. You'll have jumpstarted your economy enough by then to supply them with craftsmen at about the same time they hit a through the roof price. Even so you can get an amazingly profitable steamer factory in one province and the province right next to it that has the same RGOs and can be a massive loser. That's just Victoria 2. The economy is opaque. But doing that flawed above process in a large economy is just a micromanagement impossibility anyways. Once you've got them going the capitalists will find the correct solution though in a relatively small amount of time without player input.

Whats funny is that if your playing austria they're easy to fend off .it just gets annoying when your trying to super germany and your in the middle of a massive war and they immediately dec after truce is up

I've been finding that if you build all of the most profitable factories in only the 3 most highly populated provinces clerks are actually better to promote than craftsmen up to a point and I really like how this allows you to boost your telephone or plane production if you control a small, highly populated city like Prague or Munich even if the rest of your country is poor.
