    About bells and their influence on the overall cymbal tone: I've found that the bell/bow transition region (bridge radius) is super critical. I've been reworking a Paiste 20" 602 ride and the first thing I did was smooth out the sharp bridge radius with hard strokes of a small peen hammer. Immediately, the cymbal opened up and became drier. You can do this with B8, but I feel that if I had tried it with a B20 disc it would've cracked from too many strikes with inconsistent anvil contact.

    That's a special pie man!......Plenty of stick, as usual, and that wonderful dark simmer!.. I dig that the spread is almost all in the low-mid range. The second one is also a beautiful piece. Other than the pitch being a little higher, the vibe is very similar. You've really got that formula dialed in 😉👍

    Either one would be totally fine with me. They are better than “old Ks” because they are made with love and to specific specifications. The old K sound is subjective, and hit and miss. Yours are more consistent

    I bought a Paiste 101 pack... Been playing guitar for 33 yrs... So the collection of gear is worth as much as my house... But Drums... Been on em for 3 yrs... So still on the cheap... Hince Paiste 101's. The ride is great... The hi-hats are great.... The damn crashes are bad. "Bonnnnnnnng" They sound great as different pitched rides... But I'ma throw them out the window as crashes. I feel that hogging off some material would help though... They're super thick. I'm back to using the unbranded crashes the Mapex kit came with... Anyone messed with the 101's?

  • @joc8
    @joc8 Před 2 dny

    Both great cymbals, as you stated in the intro, the first is dry and woody, and the second is more airy…both have a funky vibe when opened up, or lightly crashed. I like the oxide crust process, it really helps with control, and looks good, too. Another great job, Timothy, and as always very informative, I look forward to your next creation/s.

  • @AstAMoore
    @AstAMoore Před 2 dny

    It crashes beautifully-a very rich sound! But is it really “thin”? I mean, I have a 22-inch Bosphorus Master Series ride that clocks in at 2100 g, and I’d consider _that_ pretty thin.

      I love the low end as well on that first one, the long distance between that note and the stick note, and nothing much between creates a disarming/enchanting duality.

  • @OldDrummerNewTricks

    Wow, Timothy, another beautiful creation! Man, I have to say I like this one as much as the "old K remade"...or maybe even more! I had to go back and compare, but this one seems to have better stick definition, a more funky and nicely defined (louder?) bell, and a quicker, sweeter-sounding crash (without that slight "hum" I hear in the K remake). Also I think this one would work not only for jazz but also for some of the lower-volume blues gigs I get called to play. Please make a note that I absolutely LOVE this cymbal-it's definitely the kind of sound I'm looking for in my commission!

    • @ReverieDrumCo
      @ReverieDrumCo Před 5 dny

      @@johnmckenna1776 I’ll probably never make a cymbal only with the machine. Every cymbal I make will still have a significant amount of hand hammering. This process is the initial round that gets the basic shape. Everything after is done by hand.

  • @johnmckenna1776
    @johnmckenna1776 Před 5 dny

    Paiste has a similar machine that the cymbal smiths use to hammer some of their cymbals. I think the Rude series uses a device like this, even though the machine helps its still not an easy job to keep a steady hand while the machine does the hammering, as they rotate the cymbal by hand as the device makes the hammer strikes. I'm so glad that you have this new device, as I know you'll be able to do some really cool cymbals with this machine.
