    hi. is it running all winter ?

  • @DR-oc5wz

    Does is stay fry inside or is there a lot of condensation? I want to do this but was concerned that it may become stained with mold/mildew from condensation? Just curious

      I did not have condensation or mildew. The biggest issue is after a big rainfall or snowfall if you leave the water sitting too long it will saturate the lid from the top

    Hi there i appreciate your video. I live in Edmonton Alberta and considering doing something like this. I'm wondering how much money you spend per month on power?

    This is a fantastic setup but my only concern is the cost of all the R10 sheets. They are 60 bucks a piece at home depot and looks like you needed one per side, two on the bottom, and two on the top (assuming tub is 71" x 71" x 28"). That's over $500 after tax for just the insulation!

    Hey I really like the way you’ve insulated the tub, we have the same one and are running in the winter as well, our insulation is not as good as you can see from our video. I’m taking notes I like the side wall insulation. Might have to add something similar. We’re in Michigan is does get cold. Is the tub still working well?

    Do you have the energysense cover? Can you still use that with your insulation boards around it? How does your insulation compare with using that cover?

    What is the Tape you used to attach all pieces together?

    Are you able to estimate an average of how much it costs per month to run it? Of course it will cost more in the winter. Also, do you remember how much you spent on materials for insulation? Thank you!

    I am going to buy durospan r10 and make the same insulation. I think the way you did is the best thing ordinary people could try

    The problem is as soon as you turn on the jets, it will go from 104 degrees to 96 degrees in 5 minutes so you really can't enjoy it long.

    • @doingstuffwiththecards4446
      @doingstuffwiththecards4446 Před rokem

      I don’t use the jets in the really cold weather as you are right it does cool it down faster. -5 and warmer I will though for a few minutes and it drops from 104 to 102 pretty quick - stays even for about 10-15 min then drops again so after about 10 min I turn the jets off.

    Would you share the mesures for your box? We just bought the sane hot tub (hawaii). Thx

    • @doingstuffwiththecards4446
      @doingstuffwiththecards4446 Před rokem

      We just went a couple inches more than the tub around the whole perimeter. We included the motor in the box so it stays warm as well. We added around 6” more for the base total so the foam side rests on top of the base.

    Updates one year later?

      Lasted all winter long and all through the summer. Had to make a few small motor repairs this fall as I do run it all the time including all winter so the bromine wore out the flow control valve and I had to replace the magnet.

    Do you fill the bottom floor (where the drain is) with water?

    • @doingstuffwiththecards4446

      Not sure what you mean. I have foam under the tub as well as around it. I only have one area which I can fill with water

    What’s the coldest temp it’s has survived. I’m in Edmonton Alberta and thinking of trying to build something for winter but definitely worried about the few -40 days we get.

    • @doingstuffwiththecards4446
      @doingstuffwiththecards4446 Před rokem

      We had a lot of -30 days last year in Ontario. It did fantastic. I didn’t use the tub on those days but we had a steady week with it that cold and it made it through and stayed hot

    Very nice. How sturdy is the insulation for climbing in and out?

    • @doingstuffwiththecards4446
      @doingstuffwiththecards4446 Před rokem

      When you use 2” foam it is very sturdy. We used extra pieces from cuts to reinforce the corner that we always get in and out from just to be sure

      @@doingstuffwiththecards4446 Thanks! I wound up building a box with plywood and 2x4s with fiberglass insulation, and foam sheets under the tub and on top. We'll see how it handles -5 F tomorrow night in Tennessee.

    So how is it holding up? I live in Utah it hasn't been minus 9 yet. This year it got to 7 degrees F. Just checking to see if it's still working
