Honestly, I kind of fought with my parents about this during my divorce. Three years in and I was done. I just wanted to be finished with it and my parents, mostly, my mother, wanted me to just keep going after everything that honestly I was kind of entitled to After 15 years of marriage and being a stay at home mom, but it was destroying my children. So my ex got away with almost no extra responsibility other than taking care of the kids when he has them 10 years later I’m really thankful I did my ex-husband passed away in January and because For the most part the past 10 years their dad and I had a really good relationship. My children were able to mourn their father with me. They had memories of dad and I getting along during those 10 years of the four of us going away for soccer tournaments and horseback riding tournaments together as a family And they knew how much I love their dad being able to fully be there for my kids and have them comfortable morning their father with me instead of around me makes me more thankful than I have words for. we stopped fighting. I was able to grieve with his family as well. Not only allowed to be there with the family but very much they wanted me there to grieve with them. I don’t know if you could understand it unless you’ve been through it, but I feel very confident that my children would not be doing as well as they are if the circumstances had been reversed. So when people are going through divorce with kids, I just remind them to remind themselves that they love their kids way more than they want to hurt this person it’s not easy a lot of times, but it’s so so worth it. And the truth says I miss him very very much. I go to column every day before I remember. They hurt you feel from a break up will eventually go away, but the hurt you cause your children because of a break up will stick with them forever

My ex chose not to pay child support and I made it okay because the state went after him for support. Now that he is unable to work and getting SSI the state takes a portion of that payment every month and sends me a record of that. It is about $500 which is a lot out of that check. My kids now are old enough to take care of themselves and want nothing to do with him. No he was not the upstanding man that you appear to be. Wish that he was
