Chinatown Fair: a documentary

Tucked away on a narrow sidestreet in Lower Manhattan lay Chinatown Fair, one of the city's (and the country's) last independently owned video arcades. Home to a loyal group of gamers, the arcade was the pinnacle of the East Coast fighting game scene. When it suddenly closed in February 2011, the players were left to find a new home. Combining interviews with crowdsourced footage, Chinatown Fai...
Braciole
zhlédnutí 35KPřed 13 lety
Filmmaker Mark Hayes turns the camera on his own family in this short documentary. He interviews his grandmother about her parents' migration from Italy, their life in New York and asks her to share some stories from her childhood. The film is structured around the making of braciole-a traditional Sicilian recipe and culminates with a trip to the church where his great-grandparents were married.

I don't know what part of the country you're from, but the channel Rerez just made a video about the arcades by Niagra Falls and the Canadian side has way better spots.

If any of the arcades in that video have 3rd strike cabinets, or just have a fighting game scene then I'm in. If they don't have those things, then nah I'm good. Either way, will check out video. @@ryanfriscia1132

My moms family immigrated from Germany and I used to love to visit my grandmother when she was making roulladen which is very close to braciole. How did they make something so delicious with these few humble ingredients? I think they start with a tutorial from their mother which encompasses a whole family's knowledge of the dish. They go on to make it hundreds of times learning and improving with each iteration. By the time you show up at that woman's house there has been so much study and advancement on that dish you are going to be absolutely rocked by the taste. She's gone now but I still make it for my own family every Christmas eve.

At that moment, it is the same for you whether you are italian, black, Hispanic, irish. Mama giving her stamp of approval, like only she can. Now we can eat. Your mommie is beautiful.
