Despite this rivalry, Mika Hakkinen was/is really popular in Germany. He was very present in german TV spots during and after his F1 career for Telekom and Mercedes of course.
My two favourite F1 drivers, ever. The GOAT and the man who pushed him to his limit. Their rivalry was fierce and yet their friendship endured.

Not a Schumacher hater here, but he did some very questionable things on and off track. "Classiest" is not a word to describe him. Hakkinen is pure class tho. On and off track.
@@Angel-fz8dr He did do some questionable things. But often it would be his competitiveness that lead to those moments. Not excusing them, but over time, he really did mature and become 'classy'. Mika was always classy though
@@Angel-fz8dr They were both purely racers but expressed their passion differently. Outside of the car Michael is just as solid of a human being as Mika. People seem to refuse to separate the on-track racer from the off-track human.

Mika is an absolute gentleman. Michael is an absolute gentlemen. Both are absolute legends.
Two of the fastest and most talented F1 drivers of their generation, no doubts about it. I used to dislike Michael for the questionable things he did during his time in F1, but later I grown to respect him as well and its so sad what happened to him. Plus it was always great to see there was never ill will between Mika and Schumi, they always respected eachother. For those who dont know they races in the lower Formula categories together, most famously battled for race win in Macao, where they collided at the end of the race. Mika got seat in F1 bit earlier from the start of 1991, but Michael got to a top team quicker when he ofc got that seat from Benetton after just 1 race in Jordan. I kind of wish Mika had stayed in F1 longer, but then again he clearly had enough in 2001, so it was right time for him to retire and on other hand it opened the way for Kimi in Mclaren.

They started knowing eachother in karting as kids, this was recorded 2006 when both had gotten their titles. I love The respect and love they had for eachother and häkkinen was The only driver Schumacher feared on The track(his words not mine)
