    Hello thanks for sharing! Calculation is incomplete… you forgot the cost of internal combustion engine maintenance $$$$ up here in Quebec,Canada every 15000 kms / 9300 miles oil change, 80000 kms / 50000 miles Timing, belt or chain. Let’s stop there because people will not believe us. 200000 mils= 320000kms so: Oil change 75$ X 21= 1,575$ Timing chain 5000X 4= 20000$ Prices is for a 2012 VW Jetta TDI! So yes your calculations was missing a few small details but that ok I am missing a few myself! Have a good day Jean

    Tesla has hidden energy buffer, so the % shown for what you use is not exactly what is left in the battery. So 8% degradation is probably more accurate number. Since it's non-linear, you should be good for at least 600k before you hit 20%.

      While I was traveling, close to none as my source of income comes from working on my computer so my car charges while I work. You know, kinda like your car sits in a parking lot doing nothing while you work. But mine is getting fuel so I don’t have to waste time getting it when I’m not working. Now that I’m not traveling it’s still none! It charges while I sleep!

    The Model 3 is an awesome car! But $2,300 in broken parts is nothing to brag about. My Ford PHEV had two FSB items that were free and then nothing broke for 184k miles. My in-town and highway operating costs are the same as an EV. The only added cost is oil changes every 25k miles.

    $12000 for fuel over 200000 miles! thats insane! I do Around £3000 in the UK for fuel a year 20,000 miles. I usually buy a second hand car ( every 4/5 years)with around 30,000miles and that cost me £55,500 for 200,000 miles(ish) and as mentiontioned , buying a car every 4/5 years because the damn thing is falling apart after say 100,000 miles. Who's going to buy a car that might need a new battery. I'm always going to fear the battery is going to be bad in any used electric car. I sure won't buy a used car that I know will soon need $20,000 worth of work. There's one more factor that stops me and it's the article that follows. It's a bit long but it should be considered. Posted on Saturday, August 12, 2023 by AMAC Newsline AMAC Exclusive - By Ben Solis As President Joe Biden and his Democrat allies rush to force every American into an electric vehicle, the resulting surge in demand for cobalt and other rare earth minerals used in battery making has brought suffering and tragedy to some of the poorest countries on earth. During international meetings in Rome last month, African leaders warned that the West’s strategy for combatting “climate change” by building an ever-larger fleet of EVs is both undercutting their supposed concern for the environment and destroying the lives of entire communities. Specifically, mining operations for minerals like nickel, lithium, cobalt, and copper are poisoning the air and water sources, while women and children as young as six years old toil long hours in unsafe conditions. The catastrophic effects of these mining operations can be observed most acutely in Western and Central Africa, particularly the Democratic Republic Of Congo (DRC) where families are fleeing insecurity and danger. The DRC supplied nearly 75 percent of the world’s cobalt in 2021, and it is estimated that up to 40,000 children under 15 work in the mines. While the DRC is among the poorest countries in the world in terms of average household income, it is one of the richest in terms of natural resources, including large reserves of oil, natural gas, gold, and diamonds. Three-quarters of the world’s silver, valued at $4.44 billion, is mined in the DRC each year. But many of those mining operations have now given way to copper, lead, and cobalt - the life force of the left’s “green revolution.” The International Energy Agency estimates explosive growth in worldwide demand for cobalt in the coming years, largely driven by government-subsidized growth in the EV market. A typical electric car battery needs around 30 pounds of cobalt - now referred to as “blue gold” in the mining industry. While mining companies in developed nations today have a long list of safety precautions they must comply with and minimum wage requirements, no such protections exist in the third-world countries where the vast majority of cobalt and rare earth minerals are extracted. A new book released earlier this year from Siddharth Kara, a senior fellow at the Harvard School of Public Health, entitled Cobalt Red, reveals just how horrid the conditions are that many of these miners are suffering through. According to Kara, at least 30 percent of cobalt miners in the DRC are “artisanal” - a polite term for laborers who perform extremely dangerous work for the equivalent of just a few dollars a day. Many own no tools and dig with their bare hands, often contracting severe illness in the wet and filthy conditions. As a heavy metal, cobalt is toxic to touch and breathe. Yet entire villages work in mines surrounded by a haze of cobalt dust. Mothers toil with young children strapped to their backs. Birth defects have skyrocketed. Mining for other metals like lead is similarly dangerous. According to Kara, the EPA advises a maximum safe limit of 40 micrograms of lead per square foot inside homes, but in Congo’s “copper belt,” homes average 170 micrograms. These elevated levels can have severe effects on the human nerve and digestive systems, as well as fertility. In children, lead poisoning can lead to irreversible developmental issues. Even people who are not involved in mining directly but live close to the mining areas have been found to have very high concentrations of heavy metals in their systems. The water sources are all likewise contaminated, and even wildlife such as fish and chickens show abnormally high levels of cobalt and lead. The miners, meanwhile, earn 11 cents per kilogram of cobalt ore. On a good day, a miner might be able to extract 40 kilograms. One local villager told Kara that although everyone dug, no one became rich: “We do not earn enough to meet our needs.” Many commentators have referred to these conditions as “medieval,” but that is not exactly accurate. While medieval life was undoubtedly difficult, societies in the Middle Ages also embraced serving the poor, the sick, and orphans, often through the institutions of the mutual aid and social care societies of the Catholic Church. But no such protections exist in the DRC, and Christians are persecuted there (the DRC regularly makes the Open Doors list of the most dangerous countries in the world for Christians). Many locals have explicitly called the situation in the DRC modern colonialism, and have compared their lives to those of slaves. Indeed, most of the mining operations in the DRC are controlled by foreign firms - primarily from China, which has made major claims in mineral extraction in Africa. But while the West has been eager to denounce Chinese human rights abuses in China, the liberal green agenda is now by default hopelessly reliant on Chinese mining operations in other parts of the world. In some cases, the links between Western leaders and exploitative mining operations are even more direct. As The New York Times reported in 2021, Hunter Biden once helped a Chinese company acquire ownership of one of the world’s richest cobalt mines in the DRC while his father was vice president. Amid new revelations that Joe Biden sat in on at least 20 business calls with his son while vice president, it’s worth asking whether or not the older Biden was involved in this deal as well. Western liberals have made a virtual cottage industry out of bemoaning the abuses seen during the era of colonization. But now, their climate change obsession is creating a new and in some ways far worse version of it. Ben Solis is the pen name of an international affairs journalist, historian, and researcher.

    • @VoyageWithoutCarbon
      @VoyageWithoutCarbon Před rokem

      Thankfully with the model 3 (and I think all cars now) they have a modular battery so you only have to switch the module that goes bad opposed to the whole thing like in the S’s you hear about with a $20k price. In 2019 Musk said it would cost $5-7k per module. Still a pretty big price tag and no one (afaik) has had to get one yet so it’s to be seen if that price is still valid.

      Supercharging price? You’re right. In the past year it’s jumped heavily. Around me I get it for .28-.35 now but know in many places it’s up to .45 at on peak times. Still with the average home electricity cost of .17 (and that being the primary charge place for most users) .25 - .30 feels like a good average price cost.

  • @mrericrossify
    @mrericrossify Před rokem

    Can you drive 200k in cold weather miles and not have your charger fail to charge overnight, I couldn't make it 20k miles so I don't think so. Can you drive as far as he did and not have tire issues that require you to get a tow, or a supercharging part that goes bad and won't let you charge or think you have enough miles but the chargers are full and by the time you can get to your final charger your out of battery, 3 hours behind schedule, and in the middle of the night when no one can help? I don't mean to be harsh but this guy's tesla is super human or something because some people's or water logs here in Florida after our last flood, and I haven't heard that happening to an gasoline vehicle. If you want to pay the same price as gas you only have to spend an hour at the pump, instead of 3 minutes to fill up on gasoline, otherwise you will end up charging everywhere and driving everywhere to try to find free electricity. Did he calculate the charging cables and adapters? Tesla chargers a $200 diagnostic fee just so you know. That's just so they can figure out what's wrong. They also won't let you charge your car for free to get home after you paid to have it towed to them. You will see people online saying they have a $15k bill for a battery, a $2k bill for a pcs part, those are real

    • @VoyageWithoutCarbon
      @VoyageWithoutCarbon Před rokem

      Maybe my Tesla was superhuman. Sometimes it seemed so since I never experienced any of the problems I hear people complain about. I can say I made it all around North Dakota in -20° weather when they had 0 superchargers and never ran out of battery. At one of the chargers though I could only get 3kw though because it couldn’t heat the battery enough in the cold. That was the biggest headache I had re:charging (had to get an extra day at the hotel and charge for over 24 hours). Just like in a gas car, the miles predicted are useless, we just don’t notice it in gas cars because they can fuel up in more places. Set it to % and forget it as that is a reliable prediction. Unless you’re speeding. The car has no way to tell if you’re going to be going 80 in a 65 which will end up using exponentially more energy. Re:chargers and cables Tesla included those for free (a 110 and a 14-50). Unfortunately they stopped including the 14-50. Sorry to hear about your service woes. I’ve found that quality drastically changes at each service center and unfortunately as Tesla has gotten bigger the quality has seen a drop at many of the bigger city locations with charges like the diagnostic fee being added. The $15k for a battery is for any car that was made with the old school packs which are the only ones (because of age) we have any data on failing. Since 2019 all packs have been modular and now only a part of the battery has to be replaced opposed to the whole pack which cuts that # by 4. In all those miles I only came upon one SC station that was fully down and it wasn’t at night but was on a Sunday when I could get no help from Tesla. Fortunately there was another (non Tesla) charger a mile away that I used but if there wasn’t I would have had to look for some random outlet to use and I’m sure I would have a bad taste in my mouth. Full chargers are starting to become more common on heavily traveled routes which is extremely frustrating if you’re in a time crunch. It can add hours onto a trip. And yes, the price of service (per hour) is ridiculous but as service was almost never needed I never got frustrated with it. Hopefully the third party market will grow and fix that issue.

      Never. Car got totaled with 230k and still had 87% of original capacity.

      @@VoyageWithoutCarbon That sucks. I was hoping to hear a 250k mile review. What did you replace it with?
