Sorry for my broken english, but I need to get this out of my chest. I am a millennial, the first book came out in my language when I was 7 years old. I am now 31 years old. I was super Harry Potter fan, reading the books 20+ times when I was a child and a teen. I wouldn't say I was in fandom, because I didn't have internet till I was 13 so I had no way of interacting with other people who created. And I didn't learn english until I was 19. So for first 12 years of my Harry Potter journey I daydreamed, spoke with my classmates and friends, wrote my own stories, then the internet came and I found myself on Harry Potter forums (in my language), where I roleplayed as Lily Potter most of the time (or my OC) I loved marauders era, I saw so much potential there. At the time I read like 1 available marauders fanfic, I read Dramione a lot and as a anime fan I spend my fanfiction days on reading Naruto fanfiction :D Then the films came out and I didn't like them that much tbh. Like I would rewatch the first three but the others I don't really care about. I was in rage with 7th movie the only thing I liked was the music. As I grew and started to poke my head in english sites, like the original Pottermore which I adored. And of course I started to learn about Rowling and problems in the books. TBH half the things I didn't even notice, because they were either missing in translation (I never read HP in original) or I didn't notice because I already had headcanon that fixed it (my favorite kind of headcanon is the kind which complete something incomplete). But Rowling as a person can burn in hell. In recent years, I fall out from Harry Potter completely. I didn't touch the books like 8 years now, didn't watch movies and didn't play the games. So as I am no longer Harry Potter fan, I can tell I am marauder fan still, because the only things I am going back to are marauders edits on youtube. I don't read marauder fanfiction, I saw couple of fanarts at random, edits are the only things I often watch. After watching this video, I can definitely say I am not in this fandom either, because there is so much lore and this lore is diametraly different from the marauders lore I grew up with and from the edits I know and adore. Like half of the characters from this video I didn't see one edit of. I didn't even ship wolfstar, there always was something unspoken between them but I didn't ship them together. I am from times when Marlene was shipped with Sirius, and oh boy this fandom went a long way from this. Also my Marlene is Alicia Vikander I was so surprised with actresses in this video. I am living in different era of this fandom. The reason I watched this video is that week ago I found out Timothee Chalamet is fancasted as Regulus Black and I just somehow dive in marauders era once more, watching some new edits here, even on tik tok. I always loved Regulus, and my characterisation of him is nothing like said in this video, but his face is from now Timothees. I even tried to read some fanfic but it was Jegulus and I didn't even finish it.. it was totally out of this world for me and my Jily heart. But I must say: I absolutely adore what people did with this fandom. Its the big middle finger to Rowling, to have so much queer and poc characters, and how this fandom come to adore and love them, to write the Bible lenght novels with these characters, to make beautiful edits and fanarts. I love the fluidity in this fandom, everybody can headcanon someone else, it is more diverse, more bigger, more modern. It is what is needed in these times, so everybody keep up the good work. I used to be in this fandom circa 2017 to 2019 so this is a fascinating look into how that fandom has evolved. I wrote a wolfstar fic around that time that has some of the "older" characterizations of Remus and James. This almost makes me want to go back and finish it...

mars bars are from all the yung dudes i think. remus comes from a mission to his and sirius' flat to try and resolve an argument (i think) and sort of apologise because he's not home a lot. he bought two mas bars as like a peace offering. he sets them on a table because his phone starts ringing. and then he finds out about lily, james and peter's deaths and sirius' imprisonment. so the mars bars just lay there on the table while he has a mental breakdown.

honestly i love the headcannon that james in school is like the token straight ally friend and then (pretend the war never happened) shows up to a reunion happily married to a guy (cough cough regulus)

wanted to add something for my fellow slytherin skittles fans out there. Barty was never actually mentioned being there at the time when Alice and Frank were being tortured and if he was, he had already lost his mind at that moment (wether it be bc of rosekiller or the death of his friends, that's your choice!) Let's also not fail to remember that Barty was literally Imperio'd by his own father for 13 years and I'm sure that had also taken a major toll on his sanity, even though this was after everything with Alice and Frank and Evan and all his friends. Another head-canon thing to mention is that Regulus had actually planned everything this way because he knew he couldn't escape and that he was going to be the heir at the end of the day. He had done research about the horcruxes since his 5th year so he knew literally everything and how to destroy Voldy, and it did take him a while to realize his parents didn't actually love him, but when he did it was pretty easy to go forth with his plan. Also very popular that Regulus was the one that told James about the mark and lied about loving him in the first place because he wanted James to stay safe and he also knew he was going to die so he didn't want to give James so much grief, even though the letter he sent to James (and Sirius + his friends) was quite literally heartbreaking. He just thought that if James thought he hated him and lied about the love he had for him, it would make it easier for James to move on from him and he even went so far as to think that James didn't love him enough and that his death wouldn't affect him that badly. (Which it did, by the way.) Another head-canon that Marlene had actually snuck out during 'lockdown' to see Dorcas and this had made Dorcas very upset and worried that Marlene would be followed/killed, and offered her to stay at her house, which she declined. She later found out Marlene and her whole family had died, which had led to Dorcas basically going ham and becoming so strong that Voldemort himself had to come kill her. Pandora had received a letter from Regulus with his goodbye and how much he loved her (obviously), and also telling her about his plan. She begins to figure out ways to destroy the horcrux, and she later finds out that Dorcas had also gotten the same information, and they began to help each other since they were the only two that hadn't become death eaters, and it was easier to be together than to be alone and handle the loss of all their friends (wether it be their death or because they became death eaters.) They obviously died at the end of the day! Last one: I know many people believe that Pandora had been disowned or ran away, but I like to think she wasn't until she grew older and after her twin brother died. I like to head-canon that since Evan had joined the death eaters and she hadn't (or maybe she did but she was a spy for The Order), that this caused their relationship to literally obliterate. There would be days where they couldn't look each other in the eyes, and there would often be days where Evan would literally come crawling to her begging her on his knees to forgive him, to not leave him because he didn't want to be alone. She would comfort him too, sobbing with him and cradling him in her arms almost like a mother would. But right when they stopped and pulled away, it would repeat. Day and night, every single day and it hurt Pandora so much, but she couldn't forgive him. She couldn't trust him anymore.

if someone was to ever ask me what the marauders were, I would automatically drag them over to this video/your channel. I am begging you, PLEASE make videos about the tragedies between the relationships and friendships in this fandom because the words you use and the way you explain things is so eye opening and it gives even me--a fan for 3 years--such a bigger view of these characters. I've always been a major Slytherin Skittles and The Valkyries fan so seeing you agreeing with them needing more recognition just warms my heart. Definitely following you.

I am in awe, Jesus Christ this was thorough!!!!! I cannot imagine how long this took, great job :) A few of my favorite hcs also: 1. Welsh Remus! It's canon that Hope worked in an insurance office in Cardiff and met Lyall while taking a walk in a Welsh forest (weird way to meet, but ok, Joe), so it's commonly hc'd that Hope and Lyall (or just Hope) were Welsh and that Remus speaks Welsh (there are some lovely fics where Remus refers to Sirius with Welsh terms of endearment like cariad). Love this one because Welsh language rights have been systematically diminished or taken away by the English for the past...800 years? And the Marauders fandom is so consistently pushing against oppressive status quos :) 2. In canon, Hermione describes Remus as having patches and darning over damage on his clothes, so it's not much of a headcanon, but I do like imagining Remus with a darning mushroom darning away at his clothes both out of neccesity (being of low socioeconomic class (but also this another example of Joe's weird ways of showing that ppl are poor)) but also as a meditative ritual kind of thing. I do love divorcing the idea of fiber arts (like mending) being feminine and it's nit-picky, but it does kinda annoy me how Hermione said it as a bad thing, implying it would've been better for him to buy new clothes when the ones he had worked fine and were fixable (which speaks to the consistent themes of overconsumption and capitalism in HP canon but I digress). Basically, I just love the idea of Remus mending his clothes (and a non-canon hc: knitting)

18:15ish omg THANK YOU it's the first time i'm seeing someone disagree with the hc that remus's parents (esp his dad) are terrible to him like!!! no!!!!! i've always pictured them more as an already struggling family getting one more thing that's really difficult to handle but they still do their best, even if their best is not good enough!!!!!! (plus i'm an angst lover to my core and this is just way more heartbreaking to me than remus's parents just being straight up assholes?) idk his dad is barely an existing character (and yet here i am defending him like my life depends on it) but i agree that the fandom's treatment towards him feels very unfair sometimes, ok rant over i'll go touch some grass now

it's interesting how different my impression of Evan is compared to what I've seen here. I've always thought him as the voice of reason for Barty, the rational one. I think it might be just from few fics, but I also always think that he didn't really care for the deatheaters (but also didn't exactly disagree) and joined them only because of Barty, who got really invested

i actually have never seen Hope portrayed as a bad person. There's a lot of her not knowing how to deal with Remus' situation, but I've always seen her at least try

Just wanted to add something about Peter. I’ve heard some theories that Dumbledore manipulated Peter into becoming a Death Eater, so he could gain information and forced Peter to go along with all the messed up things the Death Eaters did. Just a thought. :/
