Building a floating storage pad
Using trees and rubble we are building a floating storage area on a swamp. Using a tried and true method of corduroying trees to support two feet of clay. Have to get flat space where you can get it! Just loving my CAT 301.8C Mini Excavator. It's a beast for it's size!

aww, I found 2 barn swallows about the same size a couple weeks ago. We have many nests in our garage. They are too far up to put them back in nest sadly. The parents refused to feed them on the ground, or seemingly anywhere outside the nest. After 24 hr of no food I took them in. Runty bird the next day I suspect dehydration. I have a background in. pigeons. but not other birds. I fed him kitten kibble, soaked in Pedialyte. I feed the kitten food to pigeons and it's basically gold standard for birds that require big protein. Also some banana baby food as i always worry about dehydration in birds. I released him back in the garage yesterday, the adults feed him as if he was their own fledgling! I failed to ring him, but it's obvious what one is him as he is by far the. biggest barn swallow I ever seen because of all that kitten food! The runty
Excellent explanation in this video, thanks for share knowledge
Very glad you liked it! Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. Cheers!
Please don't floor it after a cold start!! let it warm up first :(
Oh I know. I am very mechanically inclined. But this truck will not idle when cold. I have rebuilt and tuned the carb several times. The only way it will stay running is if you clear it out. Then it will idle and warm up. Truck doesn’t owe me anything anymore so if I have to swap an engine I will.

Aww thank you so much!
Kill the music 👎👎👎👎💩😬
In normal shop videos I don’t typically use music. But in this video I like it.
looks like a great time, nicely done man
It was pretty cool. Thank you sir!
What dump conversion kit did you use? Please.
I made all of it myself. It wasn’t a kit. I built a hydraulic scissor lift.
Nice use of the mini truck, love it.
Thank you!
Great recap. What ply belting? Track width? Grouser material?
I believe the belting is 3-330. I was told it’s low temp. The place I bought it sellers the same for real snowcats. Tracks will be about 20” wide and grousers are going to be 1” sq tube with 3/8” wear bars on the bottom. I plan on doing a drop center grouser design. It better suits the amount of snow we get. I think the grousers will me made out of three pieces. The sq tube main part. The wear bars then the wheel guides. My wheel guides need to be a bit taller due to the turf tires I am using. More Argo style. Should be getting into the track fabrication soon. But I keep saying that about everything. Work on the car has slowed because I am tackling some outside projects.
Lol was he tired of the weight of his own head?
Haha probably. He was such a goofy and affectionate bird
Adorable swallow, did he fly away?
He did!

Jeffrey is to cute❤❤❤❤
He is just an amazing bird. Wildly affectionate
He doesn't want to leave you. 😢❤
Not at all. He came back in for the night. I guess it’s a soft release lol
Good on ya for looking after the we guy
Thanks. He is super goofy and affectionate
Take him back
He hung around all day and came back in the house. We will work on a soft release I guess!
Your bird is broke
Hahaha sure seems like it hahaha
😂😂😂
What kind of bird? Looks young.
It is a Barn Swallow. I got it as a rescue about 9 days ago. It’s an early fledgling. Likely pushed out of the nest. But one couldn’t be found near by. Goofiest bird I have helped out.
@CenterLineDesigns Cool! I've saved 3 screech owls that I picked up off the roads at night. They fly into headlights catching bugs.Fed and watered them for three days. Good job!
Nice work! Birds have a way of finding me. Two years ago we helped a kestrel aka sparrow hawk. I thinks I have some shorts on it. I just love seeing when they just let you help and trust you
He ain't going no where 😂😂😂😂😂nope ❤
Not at all. Silly bugger has been outside all day just hanging out and flying around. He comes up to me mid flight and hovers and is like “hey look at me, I am doing it!”. I guess it’s a slow transition.
Absolutely amazing having a bird friend is my life long dream, bird photography enthusiast@@CenterLineDesigns
Nice trick!
Thanks man!!
May need 6 pads? To stop any flexing?? 👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧
Yea possibly! When I talked with the guy selling he said just the corners but hey when had more support hurt right! Cheers! From the UK?
i ran a sheet of plywood on my mini dump
Yes for sure that would help a bunch! I figure I’ll be building a new box soon.
When you have some kind of equipment, you will be amazed at what you can do. Keep up the post as I like to see your channel grow! Kudos to the wifey for being able to help.
Thank you Lloyd. Means a lot I needed that today. Thank you!
The trucker delivering the container will want to back in to unload the container and you will need a way to unload the truck
They have tilt deck trailers for that. They off load themselves. Back in and drop it off. Very simple.
Need to also upgrade hydraulic for dump bed and suspension to handle the weight
Hydraulics are good. Suspension well she sits on bump stops the whole time…. The tires are basically the suspension haha
Found your channel today love it. A friend got me a welder and plasma cutter thought I needed a hobby lol I'm 69 retired. Have you thought about plans for this build so us beginners could build one
Hey thank you! I appreciate you taking the time to comment! I have been trying to build the channel over the last year and a half. We have a cool snowcat build ongoing and couple other projects coming up. Most videos will be of some sort of fabrication but every now and again we get out of the shop. At this time I don’t have any plans. This was sort of a wing it build. There are much better ways of building a rocket stove using tubing that is much less work. But I used this as a project to brush up on my SS TIG welding. But in the future I will keep that in mind to possible make plans if the project lends its self well to it. Hey it’s never too late to learn something new! I love looking at a pile of material and just thinking I can make that into anything… I hope to teach and entertain in my videos. Thanks again! Stay in touch!
Where did you get the 26 wire cable?
That was a left over chunk from a friend that came from a controls project quite a while ago.. It’s generally ordered from a cable supplier like anixeter. Not something really available to retail. It actually a 20 conductor and a separate 6 conductor.
Love the build! I can’t wait to see it in motion!
Thank you! Neither can I! Lol. We should be starting in the next few weeks hopefully! Right now putting some time in another project outdoors than will have videos! Shhh lol
you did a good job but lots of rocket stove pizza oven before yours, i even thought to use that same topper for pellet grill quite a few years ago. this is first guy i followed. czcams.com/video/37elU4YOhXM/video.html
If you want the wiring to look really nice and also be super robust. Get some heat shrink nylon woven covering. I use it on my hydraulic hoses. You can get it in a bunch of different sizes and it’s pretty cheap.
You bet buddy. I have gotten something similar that I’ll use in areas it’s just not quite done to wrap up. That nice stuff eh. Cheers
I would put a protective edge around all the through holes to protect the wire harness from abrasive vibrations and sharp edges of metal .
You bet. However I did round the edges very nicely and the cable has a thick jacket on it. In most areas there isn’t enough room to fit anything else and the cables are secured well. So I don’t see there being an issue.
@@CenterLineDesigns I have seen secured wires wear through on dull edges in semi trucks
Will you be making a custom fiberglass roof assembly?
I want to do an aluminum roof. I actually would have had it done but I mis ordered months ago. But leaving it had been nice to work on the interior. I think now I may actually do thicker aluminum like 1/8” to support more weight. But to be honest I haven’t decided. It will however have an escape hatch. Good question Kevin. Thanks!
Sorry if you've answered this before but what color are you gonna paint this beast in the end?
Ouuu I haven’t talked about that and no one has asked! So good catch! What my plan is if it works out and proves worthy I think I want to put a custom wrap on it. I have also thought about coating it in bed liner (grey) but I am afraid if I ever need to weld on it that any coating will stop that from happening. Near term bare aluminum is how it will be. What do you think about a nice vinyl wrap? As far as colours go I have no idea. Do you have any suggestions?
Great video as usual, Cole. The build is coming along nicely. Since this is an amphibious vehicle, have you considered installing a bilge pump should it ever be needed? Just a thought.🤔
Thank you as always Stephen. As a matter of fact it is on the list of additional things to go in when it’s up and running! But good catch!!! I haven’t talked about that one!
👌👌👍👍
Thanks
Wiring looking awesome
Thank you!!
The nylon sprockets will be interesting. It seems like a good idea.
I think so too. I have my concerns about the strength of the laminations but from what I read nylon has a very high bond strength between layers and you can print functional sprockets. So time will tell
Im sure you've seen the MORR bombi. Is there a specific reason you went with left entry for rear seating when most 3-door cabins are right entry? I've always wanted an Argo amphib, but another YTer got one up and running and the performance is a bit lacking. Still want one but there's changes I'd want to test out
So I wanted the third door on the drivers side because a lot of the time it will just me and cargo/tools. So it just makes sense for ease. That’s also why I am hinging it on the passenger side. I hope this will be a hard working and reliable rig. Time will tell and I am sure I will make changes along the way as I am prototyping some ideas. That is kind of the fun of it. See what works.
How are you ensuring that your center of gravity (CoG) is below your center of buoyancy? I would think the battery would need to be down in the belly to help get that CoG low.
You are right. That would be a smarter thing to do. I’ll see what room we are dealing with. Something so obvious but just hiding in plane sight. Thank you!! I have several changes thanks to the help of others!
It’s a really cool and exciting build. I don’t believe I’ve heard you talk about CoG and CoB before, and that’s gonna be pretty important for safety. Breaking through ice and floating right side up is safe. Breaking through the ice and flipping on the side or upside down could be lethal.
Also, I don’t know what your track design is like, but I can imagine they will probably add weight without significant buoyancy.
For sure. You are right I haven’t talked about it much. But I have thought about it. It was definitely a factor during the design phase and I did actually set the vehicle dimensions to ensure I could place the engine low enough. That was the starting point for the while machine. But I definitely have made some compromises and also obviously just plain forgot. It should continue to be a main design parameter. Now it is also possible to place ballast if needed to help. But that’s a long ways down the road. Thanks again!
Yes correct. The tires also provide buoyancy that is squared off more so than a Vhull. Also like you say the tracks will weigh quite a lot. One of the heaviest parts of the machine. Should keep it up right. The cab and everything looks heavy but it’s actually very light.
Wiring has never been my favorite thing to do...I have worked on many a vehicle where the electric wiring looks like a rats nest...Neatness and labeling are key to a successful electrical system..,You seem to have that under control thanks to your electrical expertise...You always impress me ...Keep it up!!!
Thank you Karl!
You're probably done with wireing but those fuse panels can be a real pita if water condenses on them. Bussman makes a really nice water tight dual buss panel. They're rather fiddly but are pretty much bulletproof. 15401-1-2-1-0a. Love the project, craftsmanship is unreal!
I don’t doubt that yea. Yes Bussman makes some good products. I am an industrial electrician by trade. I’ll make note of that part number if I end up having issues. Thank you so much I appreciate you taking the time to comment. Cheers!!
@CenterLineDesigns no problem at all. I'm a power systems engineer by trade part time fabricator. Thank you for taking the time to produce the videos keeps me inspired to work on my own junk.
That’s awesome! Thank you!
Question. Have you thought about accessing the engine/hydraulic/electrical panel when on water?
I don’t really plan on it spending time floating. It’s more of a safety measure. It’s mostly a winter vehicle.
If you have a bunch of wires to twist together, you can use a cordless drill, on a very slow speed. Do not twist them too tight together though, it will reverse the noise reduction.
Sounds good. Yea I only had one pair. Cheers!
Very interesting!
Thank you! It’s coming along great
cool stuff
Hey thank you! Hopefully it work out to be a really good rig
Those are your snow tires?
It’s a track over tire design. The tracks are going to be built soon. Should be an adventure
Hey Centre Line Your body work and chassis design looks great. I do feel the light duty atv style tires and wheels could be a problem. There will be more side forces on the under carriage when turning then you might imagine.Consider some type of rubberery foam in them. Keep up the good work. Bob from Manitoba
Hey Bob! Great to hear from you. I totally understand what you are referring to. I totally agree that it could be an issue. I just have a suspicion from experience with Argo’s that it may work because of the track design and lightweight ness of the vehicle. But with that being said I appreciate the concern. It’s definitely in my mind that I may need to revisit the tires. So I have taken than into account and I am willing to revisit the tires and suspension (lack there of) if need be. I just figured this is a good starting place. But I really do thank you. I have made several changes along the way because of people making comments that have better ideas than I do. But sometimes I just want to see how it plays out. Cheers!
