Wyke Farms
United Kingdom
Registrace 9. 08. 2007
Our farm lies in the heart of the cheddar making region in Somerset UK where our family have farmed for generations. The climate is gentle and mild, where the warm, moist air blows in from the sea, bringing warmth in the Summer and rain in the Winter. Fertile soil provides rich, green pasture for our dairy cows. The climate provides the best conditions found anywhere in the world for dairy farming.
Our family are passionate about farming and today care for 1,500 acres of beautiful Somerset countryside where our herd of 1,000 dairy cows graze and thrive on a grass rich diet. Many of our cows have family bloodlines that stretch back for generations.

Wyke Farms put sustainability at the heart of everything they do. The Clothier family have been crafting Cheddar on their farm in the heart of Somerset for over 150 years. Today, not only do they generate all of their own electricity and gas for their cheese making, any excess is supplied back into the grid to power the green revolution.

We're so proud of our story and heritage here at Wyke Farms, this is just a little film about some of the things that makes our farm and our cheese so special, from the lush green grass that the cows graze, through to the family recipe that we've been using for 150 years and the traditional methods that we still use to mature and grade our Cheddar.

Congratulations on achieving the award an exceptional high standard. I am really interested in your grassland management plan(s). I suspect that the grassland where you pasture your cows are highly modified high yield rye grasslands (Lays meadows). I am very interest in the grass species used and how long the grassland is productively sustainable (Or sustainably productive) in terms of yield, quality of milk before it needs reseeding or added fertiliser and mineral inputs. ? Please provide further video's on farm management this would be really interesting look forward to your comments
Best butter going

Super .....sir.... And my dream ....cow fram
Yeah, your vintage cheddar is without a doubt the best cheddar I ever had. Don't hire me, because you'll end up shipping everything with bite marks... :)
Good to see your commitment to renewables. I'd go for trees and shrubs next to water courses though, rather than grass, as they would reduce erosion- a particular problem with large livestock.
PS thank you for being GREEN
