Interstate 980 needs to be demolished, it has a racist history anyway. It divides the city and led to the negligence of west Oakland. Also saw a vid of a really nice community garden in the city so it seems that we can make positive strides for the present and future 💯🙏

Bay native. Rent is good. Condo is more secure w parking lot. I regret being a home. Buyer. There is some real problems here at night. And I definitely am cautious at night. There are robberies and carjackings rampant and broken glass just because . It happens in even nice neighborhoods . You must be vigilant coming to car and leaving car. I’ve never felt this way since I came here from sf during college. It’s my first time feeling anxious and alert so hard.

BART is a light rail system, CalTrain is a heavy rail system. There is a HUGE difference. For more than 20 years I commuted from SF (and Daly City, briefly) to my job in Oakland. Working the PM shift I had an easy commute home, but getting to Oakland for my 3:00 PM shift was a challenge. EVERY DAY there was a delay for an accident, or a construction detour, or both.

Who want to live in Oakland ?

I owned a house in the Laurel district for 15 years. What a nightmare. Not a place to raise a family. The churches draw bad elements by feeding the unsavory who leave garbage everywhere, real estate agents and home inspectors are willing to lie to you, riots and looting, squatting law experts, high taxes, drugs, scammers knocking on your door every Saturday night, neighborhood prostitutes, people sleeping in your crawl space, the landscaper comes around on his day off with his toddler to steal your bicycle from the back porch. Joy riders literally drove a stolen car into my neighbors house. It is right off of the highway so a lot of stolen cars get ditched around Laurel. When you are looking for somewhere to live, look for broken glass on the street. It is a good indication of the type of neighborhood it is. I would find used condoms in my front yard. It isn't worth the stress. The bay area still needs to hit bottom.

Oakland should have more respect

Some people are so delusional, they can't understand how Oakland with it's high murder rate can be the top 5 most expensive city to live in in America. I've lived here since 1966, and I will say this. Crime is still a big issue. But the pattern is different. There didn't used to be all this killing over nothing like it is now. During the 70's, 80's, 90's, and early 2000's, the killing was the result of gang activities, and drug organizations. Now the murders are mostly perpetrated by crack babies, with no direction in life, who target the weak, and elderly. Robbing the rich or well off. Now people are killing in Oakland, in 2022 just to make the news.

Great video!! Seems like it could take several more decades until the majority of homes have complied with sewer lateral. Meanwhile, sewage continues to leak and the limited fresh water from Norcal reservoirs continues to be wasted on flushing the sewage out of the Bay. What happens with homes that stay in families for generations? Seems that there should be a deadline in which every sewer lateral needs to be replaced by a certain date. Maybe by 2025 every sewer lateral must be replaced. Otherwise the ecosystem of the Bay continues to be harmed and during these drought years freshwater continues to get wasted on sewage dilution.
