Giving money to the younger ones should be out of your own good heart, for blessing them a good year with good fortune and wealth (wealth means potentials coming down to them that gives them good ideas, good time, etc). Using this action as a way to see it as "paying off debt" is totally stupid and insanely wrong, it defeat the whole purpose and even lead people to a whole selfish mindset (you do it, because YOU want to pay off debt to avoid bad things happening to yourself). That someone must be confused too. I know you didn't "come up with" this theory, because I have heard it from many people in the Chinese community too. It's so common that people can't even tell the difference between Buddhism and Taoism, because the TV Shows always mix them up. A lot of Chinese would go to Taoist temple and use Buddhism praying handsign (the palms together) and greet the TAOIST gods. The culture, is in a big mess, because well... lack of education! A lot of Taoists from other sects in China are making videos on tiktok and such these days, educating people about these problems and common mistakes too. However, in the English side, no one except me is doing it lol! Most of the English speaking people that talk about Taoism have no idea what the heck they are doing too. Basically a bunch of blinds telling people what they see.

"karma" itself is an indian word, why do you even think it has to do with a CHINESE religion from the beginning? Taoism never talks about karma. But, we talk about something else that is "alike". Taoism uses a lot of different handsigns but yes I can make a short video on that today. Most common greeting in Taoism is the taichi handsign, and some uses greeting gestures that is dated back in the Han Dynasty.
