A lot of people cite this as a crazy scheme, but honestly the thought process is not that crazy to me. Compulsive liars will do anything to hang onto to their lies, even when it doesn’t make sense. They just want to be remembered for -something-, they just want to feel important, to the point that some of them will believe their lies. Her saying that she “won the marathon” makes sense in her head, because she crossed the finish line and was celebrated for the victory. That’s enough evidence for her to convince herself that she was the winner, the details don’t matter. She was just a sick individual, plain and simple.
