WOW!
Sounds very good
Yep...same old Bob...Coal Kitchen just one of many Carbondale based bands Bob has played in.
I'm guessing that this is Bob Pina who played with Coal Kitchen during the 60s/70s?
wow...two years later and I finally answer...Yes...how Bob Pina-ish is that?
@@michaelthomas4805 Wow, It's been 2 years?...I played with Bob and a few others for a very short time during the summer of '73. I was graduating and leaving the area and Bob had put together Rolls Hardly (named after some equipment that would hardly roll anymore). It was fun to play with him after seeing him all those past years. If I ever make it back, I'll try to look him up. I wish him the best.
@@kens6359 When the Hideout closed due to a fire right before Covid hit, Bob had been a regular feature there, playing a couple (I think) of times a week. But since then, Bob has quit playing. He lives in a trailer in Zeigler and last I talked to him, which was a few months ago, he hadn't even touched his keyboard. I can't understand that, and there could be some underlying health issues that he didn't discuss. But he is a strange cat, and prefers his isolation to socialization. He had a couple of dogs who he was really close to. One of them died a year or two ago and it really put him into a depression. He says he is worried about what will happen if he dies before the other dog. Who will take care of it? Anyway, I have invited him to a couple of jam sessions and he just doesn't want to play. As I said, he seems to have put himself into self-imposed isolation.
@@michaelthomas4805 That's sad to hear. Bob's a huge talent. Good of you to reach out to him. I hope he comes out of the isolation. I had to look up where Ziegler is, although I remembered the name I couldn't place the location. When I played with Bob we practiced out at a house past the Crab Orchard Lake spillway- I don't remember whose house it was. I had lived out that way for about a year during my time attending school at SIU and playing music there - a little subdivision called Triple Lake Heights. Lots of good memories from back in those days.
@@kens6359 Bob and I were roommates for a while in the late 60s, I think it was right before he moved to the house past the spillway (yeah, I remember that place very well) but Bob lived out there. Bob and I played sax in a few bands with Bob back in the day, "Main Squeeze", "The Zoo" are just two of them I can remember. Randy Bradle played drums, Andre and his girlfriend (can't remember her name, but she was a good singer), Kevin Cox reeds. I graduated from SIU, Bob stayed in Carbondale for years, eventually hooking up with "Big Twist and the Mellow Fellows" and spending some time on the road. I finally hooked up with him again many years later playing in a country swing band called "Southern Swing". Yeah, we go back to the mid-60s. I don't think he will ever get out of his funk until he starts playing music again. He does like to paint and is a decent amatuer artist and he used to enter his stuff in exhibits and even was a part of the local art scene. Not even sure if he is still painting. He used to like for me to look at his latest work before I picked him up for a gig.
Thank you so much for posting this! I now live over 700 miles away. I enjoyed seeing it again and showing it to my kids!
