Gus Kreivenas is a rising star in the freediving scene. He’s originally from Lithuania and over the last decade has been developing himself into an elite freediver, focusing on awareness, sensitivity and focus to bring himself to this level in the safest and most enjoyable way.
I also see Gus just the day before yesterday achieved a new PB in CWT of 101m, so congratulations on that Gus and we can also expect to see him at Vertical Blue in a few weeks where he’ll be representing Lithuania and hopefully putting on a smooth show for everyone.
In this episode we discuss:
Gus’s approach to yoga.
The best way to transmit information to a student.
Phobias and fears in freediving.
Interesting points on equalisation, relaxation, adaptation and stretching.
Gus’ morning routine.
Apnea Yoga System.
Gus’ recommended book is The Forty Rules of Love by Elif Shafak.
Conditions in Dahab, end of January.
Gus’ plans and aspirations for the future.

I'm challenged by the thought of reducing or removing routine in order to not be dependent on it.

I love the pitch for the Philippines becoming the Asian center for freediving. I hope more time gets put into exploring the historic and tribal connections to freediving. That was neat about Nery and Julie's trip, they spent time diving with the Sama.

I heard you say to have a spirometer... What are your readings like in the thick of your training. How about during resting periods?

Actually I don't have one, and never used one regularly. Although I took some base readings at the start of this season with a friends.

@@thefreedivecafepodcast5108 I believe it was Thibault who said he did this. That peeked my interest. Maybe I should ask the question to him in a more direct fashion :-) However, your base readings would be of interest to me too. I did my first spirometer test at the beginning of this year. My readings seemed a little too normal for my liking :-D

Sad that Mindanao was spoken of somewhat poorly in this podcast. I know there was a real issue in Bohol around this time, but Mindanao is the best place in the Philippines for diving. The part of Mindanao they see in Bohol is quite far away from any of the hotspots. Most of Mindanao has got their act together and are open for international tourists any day of the year. Come dive with us in GenSan. Great coral from the shore and then things get deep real fast. In the Davao area go dive in Talikud Island, Ligid, and Tagum as well. All respect though Stefan. Thanks for the interview.
