On surface level 'How Sweet' is about leaving a toxic relationship and being much happier now... on a deeper level its theorised to be about their relationship with hybe... at the time they were in a literal and metaphorical 'car crash moment' ... the different perspectives of animals, random objects and people is said to be the world watching and seeing how their car crash situation pans out (the drone camera is literally 'panning' in and out of them all over the place) but all doing nothing while they are out looking for help.... despite this while they are out looking for help they still try and have fun and when they do eventually find help their car or 'situation' is still broken. the ducks are prominent at the end but are actually seen throughout the video if you look closely and are said to represent how the girls are seen by HYBE as the 'ugly ducklings' of their girl groups. HYBE was also deleting comments and region blocking this video on youtube which adds fuel to the theory as well.
NewJeans are actually much more 90s based than Y2K ... all the genres they use were at the peak during early to late 90s... They also use pretty much exclusive clubland styles (with the exception of standard 90s rnb) that is what gives them musically a much more mature vibe which i think you were alluding to in their production being different... also why i dont get the ILLIT comparisons.. at least musically.. as ILLIT are are far more cutesy poppy sounding... Newjeans essentially use rnb as well as its clubland variants New Jack Swing and Miami Bass (which is what how sweet is) and More traditional clubland sounds of mostly 90s Uk garage but with some drum and bass and jersey club as well.

Beyonce culturally appropriates all the time and no one says anything
The line between cultural appropriation and appreciation is hard to define and there are many artists that ride that line of iffy and offensive. Elaine and I had many conversations about this because it was something that was bothering her a lot. Honestly, our discussions were really difficult around it - her being a black woman and me being Asian American - but it allowed us to speak from our own experiences and perspective (both personal and what western society tells us). I would have loved to have that on a podcast episode or something but we never made time for it because she was dealing with her cancer treatment. And so we had other priorities. But I understand what you’re saying. And everyone’s feelings are valid. It’s just that we should learn to speak up, listen, and learn from each other’s cultures. Thx for watching.

Only became aware of SJ last year, fell down the rabbit hole in Feb this year starting with SJ and then other groups. Maybe it's my age (30s) but I just prefer the 2nd gen groups. Still love some of the newer groups but 2nd gen just resonates with me more. So glad I found them before the 20th anniversary so I can be a part of the excitement 💙
