    Hey Rik, I reached out on Facebook. Do you have a contact at Crow Cams I can reach out to? Looking to do this for an NA set of cams. Also, we are a 1.85 rocker ratio, so that has bearing on lift and duration calculation.

      Do as I did just send them a email with what you would like to do. I was planning to do a comparison when the cams are installed. I will measure cam v valve movement. • @BuiltByRik
      @BuiltByRik Před 19 dny

      Also I should recommend using solid lifters they work really well with even a HO camshaft. The problem with grinding cams for this engine is the ECM. My first build a N/A the ECM could not cope with the new camshafts. You do a ECM reset and it will run lumpy but after driving the ECM compensates and will dumb it down. This is why I am installing a stand alone engine management system. The stock ECM does not like mods.

    These engines use steel valve lands pressed into the aluminum head. the valve land WILL pop out in an overheat condition, the engine WILL interferance run as the valve land prevents the valve from attaining a closed position.

    • @BuiltByRik
      @BuiltByRik Před měsícem

      They are called valve seats and ALL aluminium heads use them. They don't normally pop out but this particular engine has the valve seats fitted without enough interference. A valve seat should have a .005/0.006 interference but these only have a 0.003 interference from factory which causes the problem. Once the come loose they hold the valve open and eventually break and bounce around the combustion chamber damaging the piston and the head. But this head is not beyond fixing. A differential in the transfer case is used to control torque transfer to the front and rear axles. A low range gear provides increased low speed torque capability for off road operation. The low range provides a 2.72:1 reduction ratio. OPERATING RANGES NV242 operating ranges are 2WD (2-wheel drive), 4x4 part-time, 4x4 full time, and 4 Lo. I don't like that style of gearbox much. I call it a truck box big wide and sloppy gear changes lol. They also cannot cope with 1000hp.

    I am getting feedback about how I hould not have touched the dowel holes. Then what should I have done instead? If the holes do not line up and are out by 1 to 1.5mm. I adjusted the hole most likely to be wrong. I now need to make sure the output shaft is central. Let me know Rik

      Come to think of it why call it a pilot bearing? It does not fly? Like the pilot light on a hot water system? Ohhh boy english my second language and its early in the morning time for coffee.🤣🤣🤣

      Coffee had well it is called a pilot bearing if a bearing is used but if a bush is used it is called a spigot bush. I have never had a manual that used a pilot bearing before only spigot bushes. That is what my brain spat out when I thought of it. Both of us were right. Thanks for the input. Rik

    If its not lining up.. cut more out. Dont mess with the dowell holes.. Smh.. 😳

      Wish I did not have to SMH but the dowel holes did not line up. I know right? They should be perfect but they were out. About 1.5 mm so I had no choice. Now I need to check if the the shaft is central.

      I am now still waiting for a delivery from Summit Performance after 3 weeks. They used Australia Post. It seems it is lost in Sydney. All other packages from Summit were delivered fast (not auspost) like Rock Auto.

    Those are the upgraded rocker arms but they're making them with a slightly larger hole than the OEM upgraded rocker arms. If you compare those to the old styled OEM rocker arms you'll notice that the old ones also the hole points straight upward instead of toward the cam lobe like the ones you received.

      Yes after filming I had a much closer look. They have a large elongated hole on the outside but a tiny hole on the inside. The elongated hole almost look like a oil fling. So they are definitely the once I need. I thought I may have to exchange them. But all is well. Regards Rik

    I'm assuming you're installing this into your Jeep Grand Cherokee? And I guess that this kit you got is compatible.

      It is a stand alone system. It completely replaces the factory ECM. I also brought a new dashboard display as the old dash will not work anymore. It is going to be a learning curve.

      Yep im ordering parts now for a massive upgrade. It was my daily driver but now it is just my toy WJ. I drive a WJ Overland as my daily. Not sure when exactly I will start the rebuild but parts should start coming in from across the globe in a week. I don't ever think I will part with that beast. I've had it longer than any other vehicle I ever owned. Thanks for subscribing 👍
