the crazy thing about this song is that Brie Larson, who was once a pop star, does the vocals and moves basically straight from Emily Haines typical performance. Emily is the singer for metric and co-wrote the song. Brie just does it better! her voice is stronger and her look and style although clearly based on Haines is also better! now that part could be on the production team and costuming. but it is not like this was a really big budget film. not on a shoestring either but not a huge budget. but the credit for the vocals go all to her! anyway great movie definitely earned it's place as a cult classic. love re-watching the clips and the movie!

I first watched this movie back in 2022. I had my gf that year too. She had a very painful life, because of her parents and family situation. I always knew I couldn't save her from depression, But I was very inmature and unexpert. I tried hard to be her "hero". Sometimes I managed to make her feel better about life, by taking her to nice places and telling her how special, smart and beautiful she was. (Still is). This song always reminded me of her, also because I was obsessed with Drive during my relationship with her. So, in my head, it was kinda like the sountrack of hanging out with her, taking her out and all of that. We broke up later, it was devastating for me. Not only for losing her an for what happend (we had an discussion and she said very horrible things to me, for a misunterstanding that later on was denied)m but because I felt a void in my heart for not being able to make her happy. I felt very guilty for all the bad things in her life, even though non of them was actually my fault. Today, after almost 2 years of our break up, I dared to listen to this song, waiting for the tears to come. But by surprise, I could go through the entire song without feeling any lump in my throat. I actually feel really happy that I was able to achieve this. After months of pain, sadnes and tears, I can finally say I'm walking towards getting over this actually. I still feel a little attached to her, but way less than months ago. I feel happy that she is with someone else, because she is still alive and moved on. But I'm even happier that I AM moving on...
