In the last few measures of the piece, you, like most pianists, seem to play triplets, rather than in four as written. I think giving the extra time on the third note provides an extra, final, halting sense of plaintiveness that further elevates the music..

Gentile Maestro. Sono incantato dalla Sua interpretazione delle sonate di Scarlatti, di gran lunga il mio compositore preferito. Avrei desiderato di poter disporre dei CD delle Sue registrazioni. Pare che non siano mai state pubblicate. Posso vederLa suonare, ed ascoltare i suoni del Suo pianoforte, ma soltanto con strumenti elettronici, mentre amo ascoltare musica riversata su CD, essendomi costruito un impianto stereofonico di valore (almeno per me). Mi congratulo con Lei, per la Sua agilità tecnica, per il modo di suonare uno strumento (il pianoforte) con modalità clavicembalistiche, senza eccedere nella ricerca filologica del suono che doveva riecheggiare in Portogallo prima, in Spagna poi. Grazie per questo Suo dono. Umilmente, Domenico.

Caro Maestro Bartoli, finalmente arrivo anche a questa tua stupenda interpretazione della Totentanz lisztiana, che mi sono tenuto come " dulcis in fundo" negli ascolti delle tue prodezze stupende e mai sufficientemente lodabili... Una interpretazione stupenda, e condotta cameristicamente con la compagine degli altri strumentisti... Una visione che esalta pienamente la modernità della pagina lisztiana, senza alcuna concessione al Kitsch, eppure senza alcun detrimento degli aspetti anche volutamente spettacolari del brano ( anzi va detto, senza nulla togliere alla compagine che ti ha seguito qui, che il Virtuoso vero, come Tu sei, ha scalpitato e si è un poco sentito recalcitrare , di fronte a un certo accademismo un filo legatuccio della direzione che ti ha accompagnato qui... un giorno vorremo ascoltarti anche nella Totentanz per piano solo...) Che dire quindi se non...VIVISSIMI COMPLIMENTI, Maestro, una Totentanz che si fa di certo notare ed eccome nel tristo panorama odierno di dattilografi, pestoni e anche finti virtuosi che ci circonda...

Su suggerimento del mio gatto ho scoperto il suo canale e questa meraviglia di esecuzione. Conoscevo la Fuga Del Gatto essendo una delle piú famose composizioni di Scarlatti, e conoscevo le sonate in generale avendone studiate diverse ma non avevo mai ascoltato le altre fughe che sono incredibili! Ho sempre considerato Scarlatti un autore molto brioso tra il suo stile napoletano e spagnoleggiante ma non avevo mai ascoltato uno Scarlatti così meditativo e dalle strutture così complesse come in queste fughe. Devo ringraziare il mio gatto per avere insistito e lei per le sue meravigliose interpretazioni.

Скарлатти играл на клавесине. У него не было современного инструмента. Почему же вы его музыку играете на пианино в темпе клавесина? Даваите представим как бы играл Скарлатти ,будь у него ваше пианино. Что если ускорить темп в 2 раза?

One of the few performances I've heard that restore Scarlatti's original surprising minor ending for this piece. Longo changed it to major and it is still often performed that way.

I not only enjoy your playing, but your introductions are an invaluable resource towards understanding and contextualizing each one of these jewels of innovation and beauty. La n.58 con la discesa cromatica è formidabile. Sembra quelle cose da palati fini tipo il contrappunto napoletano di Durante.

This is the sonata that first introduced me to Scarlatti, and it is still my favorite. I’m not ready to learn it, I am trying the k. 517 first but I don’t have a lot of experience with Baroque era music. How do you recommend preparing for this, I don’t want to take shortcuts and I want to play Scarlatti beautifully. I am intermediate level pianist.
