Thar Farraige (Over Sea) - Celtic Connections 2024
Chamber Music Scotland Associate Artist and award-winning composer Linda Buckley discusses her work “Thar Farraige (Over Sea)” at Celtic Connections 2024.
Composed for small pipes, string quartet, and electronics, this captivating piece was performed with award-winning Skye piper Brìghde Chaimbeul and former CMS Ensemble in Residence Maxwell Quartet.
Commissioned by Chamber Music Scotland, “Thar Farraige (Over Sea)” explores contemporary chamber music whilst embracing both Irish and Scottish traditional music and language, particularly songs of love and loss, connections to place, migration, and our idea of what home means.
The work was supported by PRS Foundation, in partnership with Creative Scotland, Cyngor Celfyddydau Cymru | Arts Council of Wales, Arts Council of Northern Ireland and The Arts Council | An Chomhairle Ealaíon.
Film by Louise Mather.

Hi Su Ah, Sorry for such a late message. After I had an accident, I lost touch with friends, your mother included. I have just listened to your music. Are you sure you were not hiding a lovely soprano in the cupboard? That's something I hadn't seen before. Anyway, are you staying with mum by any chance? I am driving again, so I thought I would go down to see my daughter in Ruislip and collect your mother and bring her up here in Lincolnshire. You are looking very well, and your talent seems to have no bounds. Lots of best wishes for good health. I did send a text to your mother but I only have a quite old number. I haven't spoken to her since a bit of time after she lost her husband. Take care and I hope you get this. Maria Cole xxxxxx
