Brilliant idea
Thank you
Believe it or not… I love punts…..basically a work boat . Great for just muddling around , fishing , being flat bottomed and being appealing to me…..there’s just something about punts !!
Three times the same video ????
You have cut out the unnecessary steps. I’m going to use your method.
Genau so is'es!
I wish you success! Boat building can be very exciting. I'm building the sixth! czcams.com/video/VSyKXQZtn9Q/video.html
I'm building my first boat now and I chose a flat bottom dory because the fairing of the frame and Chinese is pretty straight forward. My next boat will be a little more difficult. Building a boat has really changed my outlook of woodworking, I have gained patience moving one step at a time. And bending wood to my will is quite invigorating.
I suspect a power planer would save time.
The electric planer is not accurate enough for this job. Too much is planed off quickly.
@@klaussilbernagl Is the diagonal fairing related to the developable curve of sheet plywood? Would straightforward transverse fairing work only for conventional planking?
I just got fiberglass on the roof. See "Building a Houseboat Glassing Cabin Roof"
Klaus very fine work👍🏻 I wonder how you would finish this roof? Fibreglass or calico?
Danke!
Besser so?
Klaus Silbernagl Danke.
Stitch and glue method is a very strong when used with thickened epoxy resin. Nice boat!
The little boy will build on that experience and pleasure all his life I'm sure. Happy days!
Very funny!
My kids and grandchildren love the fifty year old clip too.
Classic boat! Lots of curves. Great windows and port holes. You must be very proud! Congratulations from a fellow boat builder.
SOFI was the fifth construction. Number six is now a punt by Henrik af Chapmann from 1775. My workshop webcam 213.214.16.220:8080/
why would you not just ply it?
Laminating is the easier and faster way and has better dimensional results than hot bending
Yep, another dry bond glass job
Very cool ! I want to build one !

Das Boot ist sehr gut
The CZcams clips "Building a Houseboat ..." show the construction.
I've watched them all Klaus. Sofi reminds me of Phil Thiel's "Joliboat".
KEep It Simple StupidI am a genius at being being stupid, so simple, the best I've seen
Thanks for your comment Doing it yourself generates inventions
thanks! a really smart trick!
I'm happy about anyone who understands that ! When building a bigger boat, I stuck the markings on the floor instesd on the frames, because I also had to work between the frames.
In checking the Dow Chemical spec sheet for Styrofoam it gives the following parameters. Great work!!!
in fact, over five years
I am sI check a lot of woodworking handbooks. These one from woodprix are the best.
Fantastic and very smart! Thanks for share!
Thank you for the compliment. At the end of the clip you will find my e mail adress, if you have any questions
Note: The shape of the frames is more or less curved, especially in the anterior region
"Bevel's Angel and Frames' Rounding is given by itself" This sentence makes no sense. But the method shown is sound and well demonstrated in the video.
Dear nonya, I say it in other words. By the planing in the described direction, the bevel's angle and frame's rounding is produced by itself, so without measuring and trying out. I hope it is understandable. It's best to see it if you do it yourself. Do you still have questions?
Iron water pipe? Maybe you mean galvanized pipe?
indeed, iron pipes are mostly tin-plated. But that is not so important. It must be just a stable water pipe.
Thanks for the video. I was considering making one exactly like this (but using thinner foam that I already have). I wasn't sure if it would handle the heat properly without melting and warping like PVC does. Since your application works well, I'm going to give my idea a try.
Important, use the firmer Styrodur and glue with construction foam or Gorilla Glue Under hot water vapor, the material becomes not soft
If I am making a boat with a "pad" to help it get on plane quicker would I then fair the pad as opposed to the frame itself?
I think I understand your question only with a drawing or the plans. If I know more, I will gladly answer. My address: klaus.silbernagl@hk.mailbox.de
I'll be in touch. I am new to this and am very glad for and interested in the opinions of experts, such as yourself
Nice Job guys!!!
Are there any plans to this houseboat available?
Yes, i have plans and documentation from the houseboat Mail me, so I can send you something Klaus.silbernagl at hk.mailbox.de
That link isn't working for me. My email is trotcop@rochester.rr.com
Beautiful.
This is a cute houseboat. Very interesting is the construction of the bow and placement of the handrails. I'll do something similar. My boat has been named after our cat, who is not alive for a long time Maybe she will be carved into the bow
I was waiting for this video. Nice to see her finished
now i know,where my G clamp went
Ha, ha! You see, you can not have enough of clamps!
Look forward to next video. Please some inside layout pictures.
How is the boat coming, haven't seen an up date.
Hi! Now I've built five years. Since it does not depend on a few weeks. Probably the maiden voyage starts in two weeks. czcams.com/video/p-ub32SvdBo/video.html
Something else You write that you used the side of the level. I presume your level has a U profile. Similarly, one can use a corresponding aluminum profile. Homemade for me was cheaper and faster.
Thank you for your comment. For my demonstration, I used an older free boat plan. Google "Svenson free boat plans dolphin"! The Body Plan on 0.3 jpg so can not be built! In this special case, the outlines of the frames at the bottom were nowhere straight. Really! The outline of a frame is only straight when rabbit and chine are parallel on this station. My intention was to make fairing easier and more precise and effektive. But it's best to try this on a model.
Here's my take on it. By adding shims to the frames, you have changed the design of the Naval Architect. The only surface that needs to be developed is the bow where the bottom goes from flat to a cylinder. It probably didn't make much difference but the boat would be marginally more tender and the extra pieces may become a maintenance issue. You have a good technique for the bow section though, I just do them with the side of a level.
The launch is planned for next year. If you want to learn more, send me an email to klaus.silbernagl at hk.mailbox.de
Did you finish this boat?
Great Job.
