These views of Chinatown are good to see. It is a community which harbors some of the BEST chefs in the world, believe me.The statue behind this man is of Columbus, atop Telegraph Hill in my community of North Beach, San Fransisco. It was recently taken down to preserve it from being most deservedly destroyed.

Thank you for sharing. Some of those businesses are no longer around for instance the Best Western you stayed at was demolished and a Hard Rock Casino is currently being built and at a later date they plan on building a Hotel as well.
Oh, Best Western was gone! Where could I stay if I would have one more chance to visit Rockford?

I'm too old to remember the exact gas pricing during 1999. Something like to full fill an 2000cc Buick with grade 93(?) needed ~US$50.

I love this video! I am from Rockford and was just born a year after this video was made. I don't remember much as a baby but I do remember that octopus car Wash you drive past at 4:44 It has since been torn down😢 As well as the State Street station (strip club). But it is awesome to see a time not so long ago

This was the year after I was an Rockford Guilford Highschool Grad. An lot of places along East State Street in Rockford Illinois had closed, changed, or was torn down.
Time flies, as we are getting older but may not be wiser......
That's my hometown. A lot of those buildings do not exist anymore. For example, the Clock Tower has been demolished. Thanks for the video!

I was particularly enthusiastic about this video as I live and grew up in Rockford, and I'm always on the lookout for videos and photographs of my city prior to the 2000s. I was totally surprised when I found your video as I never see anything like this, and especially that you captured East State Street and the wonderful Clock Tower Resort (which has been gone for a few years), which I NEVER expected to see. I think the personal feeling of your videos adds a warmth that makes the connection to this period feel much stronger, and I appreciate that. Again, thank you! :)
