Two very important points: 1) Soak the string in water for 24 hrs if possible. Nylon gets brittle. It’s very hydroscopic (absorbs water) and the water will make it more ductile, last longer and not break off inside the head. 2) The 4 holes in the spool are different sizes. You need to use the correct hole for the diameter string you’re using. The same sized holes are opposite each other. I’m an engineer, I know these things 🤓.

Can you use a wooden dowl in the spark plug hole..that will stop the piston. And not break anything (i think?)..i just wore thru my gear today and need to replace it soon as i get the part ..im not comfortable sticking anything in that hole that may shear off!.. Ooooooh the horror!, the Horror

My first long reach pole saw was the ARS which was the best pole and blade set up, then I purchased the Barnell which was ok to save the ARS from getting abused, then I purchased a STIHL and that was my new second choice and the smaller extension slightly bent, but still operable, then I purchased this Bad Boy NOTCH and was actually thrilled that you could cut with it without flexing like the three previous aluminum poles, and the blade was supreme as well. I tried to get another one 4 about years ago and low and behold they're obsolete, what a big surprise like anything that's worth a F... these days it becomes unavailable. I just purchased a Castellari 19.68' carbon pole saw today Made in Italy so I'll see how it compares to the NOTCH when it arrives.

I got a MS390 saw it’s 20 years old and in brand new shape always worked so great starts up right away always ! Is it a good saw ? Did I buy a good one ? Must say I love the power and it slices through trunks like butter nothing like cutting down trees in the winter !

I’m running either 0.095 or 0.105 line. Unless you are cutting really fine grass, I’d go thicker than 0.080, just seems to last longer between re-spooling heads.
