What a lovely song sung Helen. One of my favourite songs. All looked fab! Too hot for any greenhouse. Great update! Danny 🌱
How lovely to be able to sing in such a big choir, I hope the day was fun for you.
Beautiful song for the PRIDE parade, Helen, and the rainbow effect worked great! Thanks so much for sharing! Very cool vibe! ❤🧡💛💚💙💜 (Sorry the slugs are getting to your cabbage.😥)
@@OliveCityOasis thanks, I love my Show Choir! ( Hopefully you could see me on the far left! )
@@bristolveggiebeds5310 I could! 👏👏👏 Your lovely, colorful crown made you stand out! 😊
Yes, it's easy to get disheartened when one puts in all the work, goes away for a few days and comes back to a jungle of weeds. You'll just have to do it in steps and reward yourself with chocolate when you reach milestones.
@@OurEcoLife very good idea!
Things look good, consider the weather. Our squashes, corn and outside tomatoes refuse to get going because of the cold but it's been great for lettuces.
Hi There just come across your channel we also have an allotment in Bristol we have had it 2-3 weeks now and we are making good progress we also film our allotment adventures so this time next year we can sit back and see all our hard work :) look forward to seeing you work on your plot more and get some hints and tips that will help us along the way :)
@@Kellyfamilyadventures good luck with your new plot!
Cabbages are looking fantastic
I think you work very hard on your allotment, and garden at home, i should think. And you are so organized. Even weeding the road gutters. I this year have pulled a few weeds on the easement because we have had so much rain they are running riot. You're an inspiration
@@sianwarwick633 thank you, I try my best with the allotment, but it just me doing it, so sometimes I run out of energy!
Me too Helen I’m like you I prefer plants to pants 😂😂. I think sadly it was a bad year to take on an allotment. People watch CZcams or other social media and think it’s easy 🤦♀️ but we know ow better. I am the opposite I’m watering constantly, it’s too early to be this hot and no rain in sight. You have done a great job and like the saying goes you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make them drink. Well you can show a person an allotment but you can’t make them grow stuff. Chin up your doing fab, Ali 🌞 31c 🇨🇦🥵🥵
@@myrustygarden my sister near Calgary has been complaining about the heat too!
@@bristolveggiebeds5310 yes they are on or were on huge water restrictions and still have weather warnings 😢😢
It is an aspect of allotments that few talk about. That is to say the frustration and demoralisation of weather, pests etc! Don’t worry Helen, you have the work ethic to succeed! If it isn’t hard work, it ain’t worth doing. And as for idle allotment neighbours, I am totally with you!
@@067captain I certainly has been a challenge this year!
My plot was awful a few weeks back and needed a good sort out, bit by bit you'll get there, I know it. Good luck and don't be too hard on yourself
@@DigDaveDig I know I'll eventually catch up, but sometimes you just have to go on holiday!
@@bristolveggiebeds5310 I know, sometimes you need a break, unfortunately it's always at a busy time, but plenty of time to catch up, if it stops raining that is
I love discovering cool plants in the "reduced" area! Pineapple Sage and Lemon Verbena are awesome! Hmmmm... I've never heard of Black Currant Sage... 🤔 Might need to look into that! Your lavender looks gorgeous! 💜💜💜 Good job with all the weeding! I need to cut back my Swiss Chard, too, because it's decided to try to flower yet again. 🙄😂 It's pretty though. You're right - a garden is a lot of ongoing work. 😊 I hope your fellow plot tenants get on the ball and start actually gardening. (I mean, that's why they took on allotments, right? Because they *wanted* to garden? 🤔🤨😣) And you did more weeding at home - yay for you! Excellent! 👏👏👏
@@OliveCityOasis I definitely do more work on the allotment than my garden, but I'll eventually get the right balance!
That cracked carrot bed looks like the super dry clay soil on the easement below my driveway. But you're right - a bunch of compost will help it tremendously. Your son did a good job in the greenhouse! 👏👏👏 Your cabbages at 4:50 look amazing, and your runner bean blossoms at 8:10 are gorgeous! I think you got off very well for a whole week away! 😊 I never go on any trips until at least the end of September because no one else in my (nearby) family gardens at all. 😂
@@OliveCityOasis I only lost some flower plants in the greenhouse, apparently my son only watered once when I was away!
@@bristolveggiebeds5310 Amazing you only lost that much!
I am sorry that you feel disheartened , I expect that should your plot neighbours engage in their plots you would feel much happier! 🤗
@@izzywizzy2361 I definitely agree with you
Oh those cabbage Helen look fabulous. Few warmer days and everything will pick up. I only water 2 times a week the greenhouse tomatoes and they are doing amazing. Wow I have not seen anyone else with runner beans yet, well done you 👍 Enjoy and keep smiling 😊 Allie & Tricia 🤗
@@therightpearplot we all just need a bit more sunshine!
There is no doubt this is the most challenging year I’ve experienced for weather, but in one way, it’s the same as every year - some crops thrive, and others don’t. It is the best year by a long shot for my peas. That shot of the runner bean flowers shows beautifully why they were initially imported as decorative plants!
@@067captain the brassicas are loving the cooler weather but the heat loving stuff is still sulking!
The brassicas are looking particularly healthy and we need warmth and sun!!!😢
@@izzywizzy2361 that's because they love the cooler weather! The hot loving stuff is sulking!
Luckily we don’t go away in the midst of summer because well it’s too hot it’s too busy (kids off school) and we can’t leave the garden 😂😂. Not looking too bad Helen and cabbages look fab. Hopefully things will perk up with some warm days ahead. Have a super weekend, Ali 🥵36c 🇨🇦
@@myrustygarden all my "kids" are adults now, so no school holidays to worry about!
🎉🎉❤
Wow Very Nice Video
Hi Helen shed and plant stand look nice and sharp grand job
Great jog Helen your braver than me it’s 30c here and I’m hiding on the house. Good on sharing the plants it’s what gardeners do 👍. Have a cool day, Ali 🥵🌞🫠🇨🇦
@@myrustygarden I took plenty of breaks in the shade
I like the colour! In our contract we have to paint all sheds green, which is a shame because it stifles individual flair!
@@067captain you don't have many rules but I guess she'd colour is one of the few
The shed looks great, and the idea of filling the bed with tomatoes is splendid! 😊
@@izzywizzy2361 I always sow too many tomatoes
Guess the ants worked that soil for you, Helen. ☺️ I feel your pain weedeating in the heat. 🔥🔥🔥 Love that paint color! The shed looks so pretty now, and I like the trellis, too. Great choice! I'm the same way when I have battery life remaining. 😁 What else can I take care of right now?!?! Don't work *too* hard though!
@@OliveCityOasis I took plenty of breaks in the shade
The shed looks great. Stay cool in some shade Helen! 😎
@@gretasgarden it does look smarter, but it's still the same colour as before
That’s a good looking garden! Well done on managing a productive garden and plot.
The flower garden looks wonderful, and i suppose for the potatoes the phase planting is going as you planned it. Sympathise with need to spend more time planting out brassica, cosmos Is the pink bush beside the white rose Lavatera ? Which variety is the white rose ? Like your idea for the hedge. I planted some morning glory and pushed the stems into a large overgrown box wood to give it some colour. I called the project Magenta Wave
Your back garden is very pretty, I am not a fan of gardens being too tidy anyway, nature prefers abundant and scruffy😊. So many potatoes!
Your garden may not be "perfect," Helen, but it sure is pretty! 😊 I love all the flowers packed together making a beautiful perimeter hedge. Those yellow roses at 3:46 are gorgeous! ❤❤ I wouldn't have cut them back either. 😊 Also, the hydrangeas at the end (mix of cream and dusty rose colors) - those are stunning! Thanks for sharing your back garden!
I don’t have anything to put out but I do have some successional showings to do. It’s been such odd weather though here we have gone from 17 rain to 30+ heatwave 😮. Have a good week Helen and hope it all goes well, Ali 🌧️🥵🇨🇦
Your plot looks great Helen, I am in the same boat with the weather and not being fully planted up yet, I'm sure the plants will catch up 😁
Allotments always look better when framed by a blue sky! The brassica cage is a great idea.
Your brassicas are looking terrific Helen. Very healthy strawberry plants too.
Steadily filling up Helen, you will get there🤗😎
Your backyard garden looks beautiful. So many lovely flowers. And berries!! Yum. I'm patiently waiting for my strawberries.
That looks like a mole's work to me. Rats and mice leave a visible hole as the entrance to their tunnels but moles push up soil as they excavate their tunnels.
@@OurEcoLife great, another type of wildlife to destroy the crops! Oh well, hopefully it's moved on now!
So nice when we get a chance to get things cleaned up around the garden. 😊 Even if it's just a few minutes here and there, it can really make a difference. Onion bed is looking great! 👍 Seems like walks always take longer than we think they will. 🤔😂 But you're right, good exercise - upbeat way to look at it. 😊
@@OliveCityOasis I'm greatful I still have access to a car most of the time. My car was hit before Christmas and the insurance said it wasn't worth repairing so my husband and I have to share our little car
@@bristolveggiebeds5310 Sorry about your car accident. Those are always a disruptive shock to our lives, if not much worse. Shared a car with one of my sons for six months before I fixed my van a few years ago (big repair). Makes you realize how dependent (and spoiled!) most of us have become on cars for every person.
What a good idea for recycling and repurposing those plastic bottles, it is the traditional allotment way😅. Your back garden is looking lovely, things seem to be bouncing back after such a difficult spring😊
@@izzywizzy2361 the only problem with my back garden is the amount of weeds in the flower beds! I'm spending more time at the plot, so I'm always playing catch-up with the back garden!
Flowers look lovely Helen is the white one a mock orange we have one similar. Here we have an amazing bottle recycling system, all containers when you buy have a .10 cent deposit but you can take back in bags and get .10 back on each. I have over time been reimbursed hundreds of dollars. Sad about the tipping again 😢. Getting the list cleared 👍👍. Have a super week, Ali 🌞🇨🇦
@@myrustygarden I wish we had a money incentive recycling program here!
👍👍👍👍🙏
Hello Helen, just think all those weeds can become compost… still a real pain but maybe a small compensation
@@izzywizzy2361 very true!
You must be thrilled with your berries, strawberries, tayberries, raspberries.
@@sianwarwick633 they are yummy
Great idea to use up all those plastic bottles. We have an ok recycling program where I live, but not too far away, in another province they are very progressive. I like your lists, and re-lists. Good way to avoid weed meltdown etc
@@sianwarwick633 I wish we had a money back recycling program here!
@@bristolveggiebeds5310 uh, we just lost a huge expansion to our program yesterday. Too bad
Well done for collecting other people’s bottles. You must have looked like a homeless vagrant walking down the road rummaging through the recycling!😂
List goes up list goes down 😂😂, but you are definitely getting it done Helen. So glad the new people are sticking with it after all your work getting them ready and let. I found plastic in my coco coir 😮😮. Great job Helen and digging is sometimes totally necessary. Have a great weekend, Ali 🥵🥵🌞🇨🇦 12:40
That noise eraser makes a huge difference! Very clever. Good to see some of the new plotters getting stuck in.
@@067captain thank goodness for technology
Your plot is looking beautiful, amazing what a bit of sun and a ton of hard work can do! The pink rose on your plot is stunning! Glad you have enthusiastic neighbours👍
Mmmmm, I see scope for some concurrent activity! If you turned the blackboard around, you could write the list whilst sat on your throne! Perfect! You’re welcome! 😂
😂 I laughed out loud!
That chalk board is just like the one Jessie uses at Plot 37! Great idea, I do a similar listicle but in my phone!
You need a trail cam Helen 😅. Looks like it may be a mole they like pushing soil up along hard edges. It’s amazing how big the mounds they push up can get. Good job done Helen 👍, relax a bit and have a great night, Ali 🌧️🌞🇨🇦
I've got a wildlife camera, I'll just have to remember to take it down the plot
