In my opinion, AD&D 2nd Edition is the best version ever published, with the highest creative peaks, the most flourishing period in terms of adventures and settings, and the most challenging as a player/master.

Ooh, Sam and Jams' conversation about the Cannibal/Magician interaction got me thinking about a way to make it more fun. What if, when a Cannibal eats a Magician, the Minions are awakened to learn that either the original Demon player or the Cannibal player is their current Demon. The Storyteller then decides whether or not to swap the two players' roles. If so, each is awakened and told their new role and alignment, but nothing else. If not, nothing happens. The minions no longer know whether they can trust their original demon, and a Cannibal-turned-Demon won't have any idea who their minions are. A Demon-turned-Cannibal won't necessarily want to out the minions right away, because that will confirm to them who their demon is. Not sure if this idea will work, or if it would just muddy the game too much. Also, it might make for a very wordy jinx. But apart from the possibility of a character swap, I can't think of another way to add any Magician-style obfuscation to the game after the first night.

Using the Innkeeper's ability to intentionally hurt the good team when the Puzzlemaster had a correct guess leaves a sour taste in my mouth... in my opinion a townsfolk should generally help the good team, not so blatantly hurt them

Just a tiny correction to the video description: When I joined Wizards, almost everybody was a Vice-President, so I since I was reporting to a VP, I asked for the title "Director", and that's what I was given. Right from the start. I have the business cards to prove it. 😁 Hate to nit-pick, but I keep running into folks who think I started as the front-desk clerk or something. 🙄

If the Courtier had chosen Atheist in a one-day Doomsayer game, will good inevitably lose because even though there is no demon, Doomsayer turns off at 4 alive and you cannot bring it down to two alive? Or is it enough to get to three via a player execution and then end with no living demon?

I'd love to see you give a dedicated episode to "Basic" D&D or one of it's retroclones. I know you considered it as "part of 0e" but I think there is a cool opportunity here to invite people that are all younger OSR personalities to run a retroclone using the interpretation that they bring to it (not from nostalgia but discovering it and reinterpreting it for the first time in the post-TSR era).

I love that you all got out the Wilderness Survival board at the end and even had a fight on the fantasy combat tables from Chainmail! Where did you get the dungeon for this? Very cool!

Yes, there are level limits for demi-humans in 2E. They were just increased. For my games I got rid of them but to give humans a racial bonus I added a +20% XP bonus for humans having fast learning. Humans live fast, learn quickly, and die younger than demi-humans. This adds a game balance to the racial abilities of demi-humans and adds a good reason to play a human

The stronger monsters also gave higher XP values which made up for the general lack of the XP for gold change from 1E. Also, personally, I still do all the combat calculations as I do not allow players to know opponent AC. They roll D20, adjust for modifiers if any, and I as the DM tell them if they hit. Then they roll damage.

It’s a shame he doesn’t seem to believe in the material he compiled. This is the only D&d I play now and it’s a blast. Rules were up for debate and personal interpretation. Spells were powerful and loose. It has an incredible domain play and if played using Chainmail combats it makes the game amazingly cinematic, from armies smashing into each other, tactical man to man brawls and loose narrative fantastic battles.(which he gave zero justice at the end)

The fact that Daniel noms himself and voted himself on last round was a big throw. He easily could have done the same move without voting himself and stayed alive. Kinda feel like a waste of time to watch if evil just throws stupidly

Your point on evil players in an atheist game is really interesting to me. It reminds me of an atheist game where I got ‘pit hagged’ into the good mez so had the option to turn myself evil and wondered what others thought of this? I remained good and won with the rest of the players but had I decided to say the word there was technically a damsel I could have guessed as an alternate win condition. Also if good decided to not execute the storyteller would I have won solo since there were no other evil players?

An atheist game is specifically a JRPG because it ends with killing god. 😂

"Courtier" is properly pronounced COR-tee-ur. There are no silent letters, as the word is not of French origin. In the UK, it is more common to pronounce it as if it were French, but this is a case of people assuming the pronunciation based on other words. Similar to the word "trebuchet", which also does not have silent letters.

I was wondering for a moment why the Artist in game 1 would say "that know they're evil" when there's no Marionette on the script... then I realized how genius that is. It accounts for the Recluse - the Recluse could register as evil, but not as _knowing_ they're evil.

I love the story around 37:30 about shooting morningstars because it is so reminiscent of the dumb things we all did when inexperienced with role-playing games. I remember having two gold pieces left at character creation and deciding to buy 100 pigeons (1 copper each) and a cage to keep them in, and the running gag for that brief campaign was that every time we did not know what to do someone would exclaim "RELEASE THE PIGEONS!!!"

I used to watch NRB & Ben & Patters religiously. That's recently been changing to NRB & Jams & Patters & Ben Usually I'm a fan of watching chaotic botc, but Jams games can be just as chaotic, and the insight into why the choices are being made are brilliant, even if sometimes turning into a cheerful ramble, as it's how my own head babbles along ❤.
