Why I Left Madeira ✈️ Packing Tips & Madeira Airport Nightmare
Join me on my recent travel nightmare at Madeira Airport as I try and get off Madeira Island and find out why I left Madeira. I will also show you what I pack for my trips and share my packing tips and packing essentials as well as what gear I use to film with. I am starting in Madeira, Portugal but end up in... well. I will reveal my travel plans and my next series at the end of the video. Living in Madeira is not always easy, especially when you need to get off the island and planes are not landing at Madeira airport. The problem with Madeira is that there are no alternative routes and if you are in a desperate need to get away, the travel nightmare can happen.

    Espada fish with fried bananas is not a traditional Madeiran dish. Restaurants in Funchal started doing it back in the 90's. I'm a local and I don't recall ever seeing them prior to then. Also, if the menu is in english, it is definately not for locals. Madeirans do not cook fried bananas and we do not do passion fruit jus (gravy) at home! LOL

    Hi Joe. Really great video. A very balanced and fair view. We've travelled a lot but Madeira has really captured our hearts - it's the views, the people, the climate, the food but also as you say the 'depth' - certainly for such a small island. Every time we come we find something new and surprising and amazing to see and do. It's the little bakery you come across in the middle of nowhere - with the most amazing bread, or a breathtaking view you see, or the unexpected kindness of the people, or their creativity and positivity... Anyway, looking forward to seeing you explore it!

    MIlho frito is great, I keep saying I can't believe they dont do this elsewhere (at least that I know of)..... people in the UK would love it, someone should start a company and get it in the supermarkets it would be a sensation. As for the scabbard fish, a couple of locals on seperate occassions have said they'd never eat it due to the fact that (apparantly) it is prone to being contaminated with parasites, and that a lot of Madeirans avoid it for that reason and that it's just brought out for the tourists. Apparantly fishermen from other countries don't even bring it home with them for that reason. I don't know how much of that is true but the results from a simple google search of "scabbard fish and parasites" would be enough to put off the more cautious traveller from consuming it, with or without the banana! Shame cos it is damn tasty. Nice videos anyway mate, I was recommended them by a friend as some of the best ones on Madeira and am glad Ive had a look all the best to you

    • @TheJoeyP
      @TheJoeyP Před 8 dny

      Because I’m British and that’s normally the term used as standard: but also because I don’t see it as permanent for me.

    • @williamdfr1715
      @williamdfr1715 Před 8 dny

      I do understand about the temporary nature of the term. But I'm just extremely wary of how British people who choose to retire abroad (which is not temporary) choose to call themselves ex-pats, whereas those nasty coloured people who come to work in Britain are always referred to as immigrants, usually by the self same people. As an immigrant myself, I am extremely conscious of the double standard, although I accept that in your particular case it is indeed the right term, no criticism intended and no offence taken I hope.
