DIY: How to fix a 4x4 shifter on a Ford F150
zhlédnutí 109Před 14 dny
A custom solution for a manual 4x4 shifter. After a cab swap the low hump transmission tunnel did not have a cutout for the manual 4x4 shifter level. I hesitantly locate and cut a hole to install the 4x4 shifter on this 1983 Ford F150 4x4. Click here to subscribe to my channel: czcams.com/channels/X61KjaMraBMgVo-wK5bFQQ.html

Hysting Heavy Stuff In New Pallet Rack.....Sketchy Forklift in Operation
I'm in the middle of changing my vacuum pump on my 6 l e series van, Vans are a different animal just to get the fan and stator out I had to pull a whole bunch of stuff, pull the intake elbow and I can see a big bulbous clump of soot on the egr valve gues ive got to change that now too.
Vans are always extra challenging! It's on the outside? Must be leaking a little.... Hope you can get her all de-sooted! Thanks for watching! 👍😁
10:45 est. very good and explains things easily
Thanks for watching! Happy Wheel Horsing 👍😁
I have the same motor, won’t turn and prop won’t turn. Any ideas? I know it’s an old video but thanks!
I think it is a direct drive, but it's been awhile.... If the motor isn't seized I would inspect the prop connection. It could have sheared a key or wrapped something up binding it to the housing. If that isn't part of the issue I would guess it overheated or was ran without the proper oil mixture; consequently melting the piston into the rings/bore. Thanks for watching and best of luck on the repair! 👍😁
@@FlatThunder I think I might of broke it. I placed a drill on the top nut to try to break it free, no it spins and everything is free- but feel like something isn’t right. I get spark, get fuel, but maybe a broke a connector rod?
@@D.Trider take the spark plug out, put your thumb over the hole and pull it. You should feel compression..... All it needs is fuel spark and compression to make it go go. If you have all three then the mix / settings might be off on your levers / knobs
Hi, is it possible to get to the upstream sensor from the top?
Not sure, I never tried it.... Thanks for watching and best of luck on the repair! 👍😁
Hats off to you for doing all the troubleshooting Andy! 😁👍
Thanks Zane! I was starting to wonder if it was going to work along the way!? Thanks for watching my Friend 👍😁
Another good one Andy 👍🇺🇲
Thanks Donnie! The expansion valve was really questionable, but works! Thanks for watching my Friend! 👍😁
You think the machine could use a paint job
Depends on what you are going for.....I like the nostalgia knowing it was the same finish that weathered my grandfather's garage over all those years. I only have it for old memories of sharing bottles of soda pop with him and my sister out in the garage! Thanks for watching! 👍😁
Believe it or not there is a bigger belt for yours. Check with Advance. Pissed me off too. Mine just broke last week at 52k
And the belt was cheaper
I figured it was too short! Luckily I squeaked it on to make it work....Thanks for watching and sharing! 👍😁
Been wanting to use this set up on my boat, Question, how does system handle the shift interrupt sequence? Most fuel Ing system's recover from a misfire with a high idle and then return to the set idle speed. have you encountered this problem if so, how did you overcome it. Thanks for any info.
This system was only tested a few times. It needs a few more tests / adjustments to fully dial it in and answer with confidence. You are correct, upon engaging / disengaging it bumps the idle up to prevent a stall. I adjusted the IAC settings on the unit in an effort to reduce the speed up. The system allows access to the gain settings on ramp up and ramp down on the IAC. I attempted to reduce the rate at which it ramps up and increase the rate at which it ramps down off high idle. I contacted Jeg's to see if they had an optimal set of settings for this application and they do not. They did tell me I was on the right path with making adjustments and this system doesn't have a complicated idle 'chasing' system some of the more expensive units have. Thanks for watching! 👍😁
Andy - the go to guy to get it done! 👍
I give it a shot, though AC systems are still kind of a mystery to me. Thanks for watching my Friend! 👍😁
Preciosa máquina 👌
Ole 'Margaret' is pretty awesome! Thanks for watching! 👍😁
I have one like this but when it starts it is not keeping up.what could be the problem?
Keeping up? Kicking on high idle?
Way cool. Im on my second 843. The first one an 843B i got rid of a few years ago for a newer S450 that was nothing but problems. Loved the simplicity and raw power of the 843 so i just bought my second ol' reliable 843 rig.
Awesome! I too love the simplicity and brute power of these machines. They are like a tank. Thanks for watching! 👍😁
I love mine to thank you for your time Sir
Thanks! I think they are pretty good engines, just had a few rough years when first introduced. Thanks for watching 👍😁
This truck has a C6 transmission, but this technique also works for those with an AOD transmission.
It is a C6! Thanks for sharing 👍😁
Another great video on how to do it, Thanks again Andy.
Thanks! This one originally intimidated me because I didn't want to mess it up. Hopefully the video will encourage others to tackle this chore with more confidence! Thanks for watching my Friend! 👍😁
*Fantastic job* on the fabrication Andy! 😁👍 It turned out great 🔧
Thanks Zane! I was getting a little worried when I had to start cutting it into pieces. Thanks for watching my Friend! 🔧😁
I used tube steel and used correct thread nuts or bolts to extend shift handles.. they say that a grinder and paint makes me the welder I ain't
Good news is no one will ever see those welds 🤣.....I found out later I could remove it with the handle attached and touched up the welds (less boogery). 🤣 Thanks for watching 👍😁
That turned out nice Andy. They sell shift rod extenders that just screw into the rod if you want to raise that knob up a little higher.
Thanks! I really liked the first position and orientation better..... It just didn't fit. I will have to keep that in mind. Thanks for watching my Friend! 👍😁
Good Job Andy 👍🇺🇲
Thanks Donnie! I really didn't want to cut the hole and delayed it longer than I should have. Thanks for watching my Friend! 👍😁
If I'm not mistaking that is a Hyster model 30 you have there, I just got me an old toy to play a 2000 Hyster 50 and the brakes are gone so I learned a lot with this video . Thanks for sharing
I believe mine is a Spacesaver model, she's quite a bit older than your unit. The brake shoes could share some similarities in design, though I am not overly familiar. Get those brakes fixed! I used mine for too long without good stopping power. This leather wrapped shoe still works. Thanks for watching! 👍😁
Thanks for making
Welcome! Good luck on the repair and thanks for watching! 👍😁
Thank you for your replies. All the best to you.
Just picked up one of these. Looking forward to bringing it back to life. Thx for the video.
These are awesome little machines! It will be super fun for your kids and family. Thanks for watching 👍😁
Thank you. It’s actually my wife’s from when she was a kid. Picked it up from her Dad’s. Did you ever do anymore videos on it?
@@jeffdukelow no nothing more on this unit though I think it still needs more work to be 100%. It's hiding out in the pallet rack. Potentially a future video depending on the scope of the repair.
I’d invest in some contact cleaner WD-40 makes it now or just order aftermarket off Amazon,, but any and all point to point contact on electrical I would definitely hit it with the contact cleaner, and any and all mechanical contact id lithium grease those while apart and doth those done it’ll be as new when back together.. won’t have to be chasing down short circuit later.. you’ll be enjoying your finished project..
Good idea! I usually have a can of CRC branded contact cleaner on hand (literally every time I use it).....I need to investigate the electrical plug connection further. It was giving me issues at the connection point.... Thanks for watching! 👍😁
Why fix the original when the new one works?
While it works, it was slightly different than the original and the quality was a little suspect. I just bagged the old pieces and probably will roll with the new one unless it gives me issues. Thanks for watching! 👍😁
That is properly called a flem flam thingy majig .. and they are hard to find.. especially when you ask for them by name..
Haha yes! Thanks for watching! 👍😁
Next time buy a 5 speed manual😂😂😂
I heard that.....I prefer the heavy duty 4 speed, but this one will always be an auto..... It's nostalgic for me! Thanks for watching! 👍😁
Those speed cables on those are always a pain in the butt to unhook. Hardly ever any extra cable length to pull the dash cluster out enough to be able to squeeze it hard enough to remove
They can be a struggle with the limited space.....I didn't show it, but it took 3 different angles on the cluster to find the best position to fit my big mitt in there. Thanks for watching! 👍😁
All my dodadders and whatchamacallers congregate here....😂.
I heard that.... Thanks for watching 👍😁
👍 another fine repair!
Thanks! I wish I didn't break the original, but sometimes it happens. Thanks for watching my Friend! 👍😁
Look at that..im here today cuz my previous owners didnt flash the decks lol...got about 25-30' of the rim/sill plate to replace....fun stuff
Bummer..... More than double the repair required in this video. Decks are a pretty common problem area for several houses. People just slap a ledger board on the house and let'er rot. Best of luck on the repair! 👍😁
Turbo was bad
I think you might be right or the tappet driven fuel pump was eating itself. Something was definitely putting metal in the intake. The owner decided it was time for a trade in 🙄. Thanks for watching 👍😁
@@FlatThunder it does the exact same thing on big truck excessive blow by you will have some but not that much
Andy's videos are always informative! 👍
Currently using this vise to dismantle a cylinder..... It's working great, but the cylinder is being a pain! Thanks for watching my Friend! 👍😁
Warranty from the company available on this tool?
They sent me a new one free of charge.... Awesome warranty and company. I repaired the old one with the hot glue gun..... Couldn't just throw it away! #Gearwrench #awesome #toolhoarder
Hey Andy is your crane made by Hybab or something like that? The reason I ask is back in the 70's I worked for the railroad and our gang truck had a crane just like that.
It's a Palfinger PK12000. Palfinger and Hiab are competitors, but offer similar products. Thanks for watching my Friend! 👍😁
@@FlatThunder Lol.. I was off on the name but then that was 50 years ago. Thanx Andy.
❤
You sir, are going to heaven. Thank you.
Thanks! I think anyone willing to purchase and assemble one of these will likely be joining me (if I ever make it). Thanks for watching and building a fun playset for your kids! 👍😁
Nice, I’ve got the same problem with a 2014 Lincoln MKZ. Checked the fuse and relay, all good. Narrowed it down to the horn/connection so I’ll be doing the same when I get time
I hope you can access it without removing the front bumper cover. It's a teeny tiny hole I worked thru, but it was much easier than removing inner fenders. I am still in contention that this connection would be fine if protected from corrosion at the factory with die electric grease. Thanks for watching and sharing! 👍😁
Seen ya at the pit stop.. I have two broncos my first car I still have is a 73 302 auto.. and I have 68 pick up
Awesome! Feel free to say hello next time we cross paths. Thanks for checking out the channel. 👍😁
*Oh man!!!* 😣 Never fun when something breaks down while you're using it 🔧
Especially with a load on the 🪝. It's all good though and nothing really surprises me anymore. Just another opportunity to fix something I suppose 🙄. Thanks for watching my Friend! 👍😁
I would install a pump to work off the ruck to run your crane, I think it would be easier.
Yes, I think that would be the best approach. Possibly a different setup in the future......A diesel would be ideal. Thanks for watching my Friend! 👍😁
"Uh, oh" says it all. Looking forward to the next video, Andy.
Definitely, a video is in the works.... Thanks for watching my Friend! 👍😁
Another good one Andy 👍 🇺🇲
Thanks Donnie! I had plans for it to be a more complete video, but the crane engine malfunction derailed the process. Thanks for watching my Friend! 👍😁
Yup my sk isn't any good either. Wah, wah, wah. And i will never put money into a commies pocket for replacing parts.
These are still working good! Every once in a while I catch a rounded tooth and it skips a tooth or two. I will keep on turning these until they are toast. Thanks for watching! 👍😁
I couldn't watch, because I went thru the same ordeal a few days ago. Put a new carb on from Amazon. Its a bitch to get on the engine.
Maybe clean the old one up as a backup? I like the availability of spare parts, but try to avoid the Chinese carb copies.
@@FlatThunder If you clean the old one up and put in a new diaphragm it should work. If your tank is a mess any carb you put on won't work long. Be sure to look for a crack in the pickup tube. Mine is running ok with the chinese carb, cost me 20 dollars.
Watched the whole thing just to see how the little cove and swing attaches to the side and you skipped that part
Oops, I can snap a photo of the tube attachment if that's helpful. The tube slide was extra confusing. Thanks for watching! 👍😁
Nice. I have one of these in my trawler. Just repowered last year
Seems like a pretty stout little diesel! Thanks for watching 👍😁
Great job on the welding and adapting Andy! 😁👍
Thanks Zane! I was pretty happy with the end result on this one. I started on it and made things up as I went. I hope it works out well for them. Thanks for watching my Friend! 👍😁
Good job as always!
Thanks! I appreciate you taking time to watch 👍😁
