Clark Hochgraf, PhD, a professor of engineering at Rochester Institute of Technology explains this amazingly disruptive technology and how will it affect society.

Fraudsters and Charlatans: The Problem of 'Fake News' on the Radio, 1920-1930.
zhlédnutí 1,1KPřed měsícem
When commercial radio came onto the scene in 1920, listeners were amazed. This new mass medium brought music, sports, religious services, and so much more into their homes for free. But amidst the singers, and the sports reports, and the religious sermons, there were also some fraudsters and charlatans. Early radio was an all-volunteer enterprise, and on many local stations, informational talks...
The Amazing History of Microelectronics
zhlédnutí 774Před 2 měsíci
The cell phone in your pocket is really a marriage of at least three transceivers (cellular, WiFi and Bluetooth), a GPS receiver and a computer. Microelectronic technology is one of the drivers that made all this possible, and Intel alone produces over 5 billion transistors every second as part of its IC fabrication operations. How did this happen? Rochester Institute of Technology microelectro...

Dumpster Diving at Bell Labs - Saving Communications History

Sometimes the importance of a prototype isn't apparent until years after it is built, tested and then often scrapped. Two items at the Antique Wireless Museum, an early Bell Labs transistor radio prototype from 1951 and an early AT&T cellular telephone evaluation set from 1978, weren't scrapped after successful testing, instead they was rescued from the dumpster and preserved. How we think about invention tells us a good deal about who we are and what we value as a society. My mother worked in Crypto during WW2. An Oregonian, she was trained in West Providence RI at a small College, and sent to Boston for service, living on Beacon Hill. She only spoke of her service when she saw her boss on NOVA broadcast in 1996. Only stating " our team got a UBoat, " when asking for further information about her service , she said " Ive not been released" and took secrets of her service to her grave, keeping her oath. One of the Greatest generation for sure

Now knowing Noonan had made an error of 200 miles on one trip makes me further think they went to Gardner island. Navigator error or blown off course by the storm and Gardner island was the best place to head for. One account by Captain Almon. A. Gray says the plane should have been out of fuel but there were still radio transmissions being made after that time. Were they on Gardner island? I'd say they were. G4GHB.

It was ahead of his time. Europa is populated and the relative simple construction, no hf amplifier and the metal back as antenna was good enough for most radio listeners in or near cities. Plug in and listen and it was small and portable. I was surprised there was a SW version even during ww2. The radio provided the listener with good information from the BBC or other internation SW stations during ww2. It would be interesting to see how it performs on SW. Even if you listen on MW you should be able to listen to distance station during the night. You can connect a wire antenna to the metal back.

A great story well told. I too grew up during the war and collected all the TRF radios stored in attics as well as buying surplus equipment by mail. In high school I worked in a radio and tv repair shop after reading the owners correspondence course texts. My upward path deviated from amateur radio when I joined the Air Force at 17. Many yeas later I returned and took all the exams and passed all three steps in a year. KC3VJJ

Hey Curt, watched your video and my observation is that sort of at the end of the song it seemed that 2 of the lower jets became much stronger & constant. I am a generalist of sorts & take a big eyed approach to things. Thus I am thinking that the coil has been so influenced by Hendrix’s supreme display of resonance that the coil got excited & corresponded with the 2 jets displaying over exuberance. David

In 1962 I was in the 2ndBG/12th Infantry, !st ID. We used this with the KW-7 cypher machine. We could encrypt/decrypt teletype in line. We sent using the Tape reader. When you typed a message a perforated tape was made. You put the tape in the reader, pushed a button and it would encrypt and send it faster than you could type.

I mentioned my dad was a Bell Labs MTS, and that he brought home all kinds of goodies from the dumpster.
