To get the most out of either of these tires you should be running a rim locks for sure. The 606 is happy on and off road at 15 PSI in the rear. More than that traction suffers greatly, less than that the tire gets too hot on the highway. The 244 seems to be happy right at 20 psi for the same reasons. This is using my XR650R. But of course I run dual rim locks front and rear for highway safety.
what happened with the sailing videos? you gave up on it? got rid of boat?
Sold it and moved back on land. Many reasons but the biggest being the psychological implications of 34 years as a paramedic caught up with me.
Just the type of tire video I was looking for. Drove through 2 separate blizzards 20 years apart and don't know jack about tires.
How is that possible
I’m not sure. I was really surprised by the total lack of traction with the D606 in hard pack snow even after the tire was broken in. I was even more surprised the 244 made it up the hill. It’s not skill or lack of it, because I could push the D606 side ways standing still where the 244 would hold its ground. Riding the 244’s in hard pack snow at low speed really is a great way to practice clutch and drift control.
@@paul-kayak so I probably won’t go to the 606 on the 24 fours right now but I need a more knobby type of tire to be honest with you because of the terrain that I deal with a lot of rocks gravel hard pack I’ve got 2400 miles on the 224
The D606 is an awesome tire in the conditions you describe. All my I am showing is it’s not good in snow. So if you’re not riding in snow do not use my demonstration to help make your decision.

I have been saving videos for a while and Just got the computer fixed that Dan gave me so I can process them again. I plan on keeping going. hope to get a insta 360 camera before the season. If thinks go well.

Looks like a great adventure. Glad there are still places you can go where you don't need reservations for every night of your stay. Out my way you need to plan 6 months in advance and book sites if you want to be out in the wilderness for multiple days.
These are not sights. They are just places we found big enough to put a tent. Doing it this way we run the risk of not finding a place. Like when we canoed in the 70’s.

Awesome, I’m from Sudbury and ride a xt250 as well as a GS, a friend and I did similar from Sudbury and kept going to Dryden, coming back around through Thunder Bay, Hearst and Wawa back to Sudbury over 7 days. Very nice area to be riding ! I’d like to start filming my adventures for something to look back on, especially through winter.
That’s awesome. I ride a f650gs as well. I have really enjoyed making these. As you can see by my first attempt doing a riding video it sucked but I still really enjoy looking back with it. I am using shit cheep cameras and my iPhone. Hope to slowly upgrade to make them better but for my Needs this equipment works!

Yup. That’s why we want to get better at riding off road and I’m willing to sit on an uncomfortable seat on the highway so I can go where I would struggle with a bigger bike.

Where is the campsite after Aubrey Falls where you stayed 2 nights?
That was Aubrey Lake Provincial Park. If you are comfortable on gravel I think you should be find. It is an unorganized Provincial Park so it is first come first serve.
This is an area we wish to motorcycle in the future, I notice one of the bikes was a sport tourer and some bikes passing were cruisers. Is there any part of your adventure where it would NOT be conducive for my wife and I to travel on a touring bike (k1300gt). ( other than the bush walking trail that you show ) THANKS FOR THE VIDEO!!!
Both the Deer Tail Trail and the Tail of the Dragon are very doable on a Touring bike. You will love it. I’m very happy you got some use out of my video.

Funny how we get hung up on technicalities of what ought to be the best when it comes to motorcycles. Seems the Shinko 244's and XT250 are a match made in heaven. Both highly underrated performers that will take you anywhere together for about the least amount of money.
My 244's have ever let me down on wet cut grass.
How about sand or mud

Yes that would be fun. The BMW F650gs and the V-Star are not going near snow with the tires they have because I tried it and will not try that again. Maybe in the spring. The TW200 tires suck as well but would make an interesting video. I may, Emphasizing may, get a set of Mitas E07+ for Chris’s bike and put the Shinzo 244’s on the WR and make a video of the three tires in snow would be fun.
Thinking about getting a similar saddle bag for my xt250. Does your xt250 have a rack on it? Oh, and thanks for sharing of course! 👍🙏✌
Yes I made a rack for it. Works nicely. At $175 Canadian the bags are good. But the price went up and others are better for a little more $. I’m glad you enjoyed it. In 5 hours we head off on another 2 week adventure. Hope the footage is better.

i agree about the battens! The previous owner can not find them but said he will order order new ones. But now that it is sailing season it is hard to get him to do much but sail. Its not cold now! it was actually 20c (68f) warmest sail yet this year.
