On the mend after losing my voice and fracturing my shoulder. Update!
After an energetic and positive start to 2023, I started to have problems with my voice/vocal cords and then had an accident and fractured my shoulder.
Thankfully, the former has now returned and I'm waiting for the latter to heal, but I thought I'd post a quick update to explain why I haven't been publishing broadcast content recently.
Normal service will be resumed shortly.
Best wishes,
Paul.

Depression nearly killed me! I managed to beat it and so can you!

My life very nearly came to a desperate and abrupt end on a distant isle several years ago. "Depression nearly killed me! I managed to beat it and so can you!" relates to that extremely emotional and evocative time in my life, during which I reached a point so low that I nearly didn't make it back. The fact I am writing this now is a testament to the decision I thankfully made and the subsequen...
The move which changed my life. A special anniversary. Cheers!

Now, a decade later, and I have made the 'City of the Three Cultures', which was also the former capital of the S...

    Spanish unemployment rate is still ( including pre & post pandemic) is 15% and it’s youth unemployment in the 20% or so. This is very poor compared to the UK rate.

    • @torovista
      @torovista Před 2 lety

      I haven't checked your exact figures, David, but the comparative unemployment rate has been that way since the crisis in 2008 and is, therefore, not really relevant to the disaster that is Brexit.

      @@torovista Disaster? It’s only been just over twelve months, when you leave an “association” after forty odd years, it will take a little longer than a year to run the country as we wish. On another subject, it’s the one size fits all Euro that keeps the unemployment rate high in the Mediterranean countries, Northern Europe gains at your expense.

    • @torovista

      @@davidgrahambrown3793 It's an unmitigated disaster. How anyone thought the UK could sever ties with the world's largest trading block and expect to walk off into the sunset beggars belief. Brexit was a con. The force behind it was a self-serving elitist agenda, and a large section of the UK electorate fell for it. Since then, we've seen the value of the pound plummet, have lost our freedom of movement in the EU, have seen businesses go under/relocate and large numbers lose their jobs due to new restrictions and bureaucracy (much of it on the UK side), and labour shortages in other areas where EU citizens previously carried out the work but many Brits believe such tasks are beneath them. The new points system for workers has also affected staff numbers in key areas, such as the health service. Meanwhile, not one Brexiteer has given me an example of a tangible benefit for the nation as a whole, which they can back up and qualify with hard facts, in favour of their argument. People can grasp at straws and continue to pin their hopes on a miraculous recovery and a utopian future. Unfortunately, much of the severe damage has already been done, and it will take many decades, and possibly generations, to reverse the process. PS: The Euro is the world's second most traded currency, behind the dollar. PPS: Please also see my related reply to another comment you posted. It's relevant to this one and vice versa.

      @@torovista I disagree, it’s far too early to say either it been an unmitigated disaster ( seems to be your favourite words) or a complete success, which I’m confident it will be. I see that the Spanish and some French farmers are sending their produce via North Africa, no hold ups, nor are there any shortages in our shops, on our recent visits to both Sainsburys and Tesco’s, food aplenty, sorry to be bearer of bad news. You do rather over egg your pudding, the damage will take generations for Britain to recover? Too much sangria? Would your time be better spent giving employment to one or more of the thousands of young unemployed people in Spain? You are correct the EU is far, far from perfect, and the cracks are showing with some of the Eastern European countries, they are refusing to be bullied by the German/ French master’s. Take German influence out of the Euro, (their control of the currency is what keeps the unemployment in the Mediterranean countries high) and the Euro would be a small time bit player in the world’s currency.

      @torovista Před 2 lety

      @@davidgrahambrown3793 Well, that’s all over the place, David. Too much London Pride (not much sangria in the UK)? 😉 I’ve only just seen this and your comment on the other thread. Unfortunately, like with most Brexiteers, it would seem that you’re in denial regarding the damaging effects that are now clearly evident. Maybe folk are too embarrassed to admit they were conned and voted for a lie on the back of a campaign which we know was partly funded by dirty Russian money. In your own words, “would your time be better spent” looking for solutions to the whole Brexit mess rather than ignoring its ramifications and making suggestions (without any background knowledge) in relation to my own incredibly busy agenda as a hard-working, self-employed person. That said, considering the fact that a crazed tyrant is currently murdering innocent people in Ukraine and has access to nuclear weapons, I’d suggest there are more pressing matters to focus on at the moment, rather than the UK’s self-inflicted economic wounds. Given that it’s clear you and I will most likely never agree on this subject, I would suggest that our time would be better spent on more productive pursuits than continuing this debate. Having said that, it’s always interesting to hear/read other views from folk who can interact in a civil manner. Let’s see what happens in the future. In the meantime, I just hope that a solution can be found to the serious events unfolding in Eastern Europe, with the removal of Putin a priority. PS: I agree to your pact not to discuss the EU anymore. Our beloved Rams, however, are always an open topic for keen debate.

      Like I said in the video, Jay: "No genuine fan wants to see another club die, regardless of rivalry". You will always get some who take things too far and make stupid comments, but don't think for one minute that most real fans would revel in and laugh at the demise and possible extinction of another club. I certainly didn't in your club's case, and I sure I'm in the majority. Of course, the rivalry between Derby and Forest is one of the fiercest in the country, and we always want to get one over each other. Victories, defeats, promotions, and relegations are all part of the game, but it's something completely different when a club is threatened with liquidation. Not only would it destroy the history, tradition, and associated way of life, it would put the livelihoods of many innocent people at risk too. Besides, and as you've hinted, a healthy rivalry is a good thing. Things just wouldn't be the same without our passionate derby games.

The really sad thing, however, is that people who voted against Brexit will have to suffer the consequences too. In relation to benefiting the rich, the point I made about hedge fund investors and their cronies demonstrates that their desire to fill their own pockets at the general public's expense is a major driving force behind the whole disastrous saga. It's tragic that so many people fell for their lies.

I pointed him to the WTO website and said best case scenario is you'll have the same tariffs under wto, but third nation applies the worst possible tariffs on all exports so likely you've just shot yourself in the foot, people don't realise under the EU we have agreements with 60 nations outside the EU, more than 20 treaties with the USA for example...
